Re: G530 - BIOS, LCD dim adjust, Sleep issue and it related.

2010-01-11, 17:22 PM

I have the 4446-24U. I am using the laterst bios available for this model, not the consumer one with the long post time. I have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions of windows 7 professional. neither can control the brightness. also, i cant use the one care button(the little button by the power button) or the fn+f5(Thinkvantage connection software). I can however use the fn+f4 for sleep, the fn+f12 for hibernation, and the lid colse for sleep works fine. I dont remember what drivers i used, but i fiddled with a whole bunch of the PM drivers for Lenovo computers from the windows 7 drivers page. I just hope that the Fn+f5, brightness, and thinkvantage toolbox button get fixed.

We have the same issue on several presentation systems.  Win 7 32 bit (Lenovo's update version).  2+ minutes to start.  This seemingly small issue causes a ton of headaches because our employees bail on it thinking its dead.  Bad part for Lenovo is we were going to buy more of these and want Win 7 but since the issue is "this version on the Lenovo wont work well with Win 7" they are going Dell.  Have plenty of other higher end Thinpads with good experiences.  Shame they neglected the value line this way during such an important Windows 7 launch.

This is a G530, 4446, Win 7 32.  To be honest not sure which BIOS, system is being used in a presentation right now, will check.  DXDIAG on it last time said BIOS 1.0PARTBL - but I suspect its something a little different.  Regardless. Not willing to try other BIOS until fix put out as I dont to risk any other problems.  My people jbegrudgingly ust wait the 2-3 minutes for start up.  Not good PR for lenovo.

Hi,

I use the G530 Type4446 23U with windows 7 x64.

i flashed my bios with the Version 52 bios. brightness adjustment works. engery mangement works.

but it results in long boot time even before the Lenovo boot screen, sleep and hibernate issue and even from time to time i will experience that the computer is trying to start, after seeing the windows 7 logo loading screen it will go into a boot loop for 5-6 times.

please fix this issue as soon as possible, like every other ppl said here... this is a great laptop if the boot and sleep, hibernate issue can be fixed.

I agree, it is not good for Lenovo to ignore this problem. If they make customers upset, they probably wont buy another computer from them when they want to get a newer machine. also, the brightness hurts my eyes. I switched to XP and linux and wont switch back until this problem is fixed.

Hello everyone!...I don't speak very good Eaglish so excuse any mistakes...I own a G530 4446 24G with Windows 7 32bit....I have the same problem here....The wireless connection was one of the reasons that i bought this laptop so i can access the internet without any wires hanging around my feet...Big disappointment when i realise that fn+f5 refuses to work...I've tried all of the above but still nothing.I hope that we get soon some answers from the Administrators!!! :smileyindifferent:

Re: G530 - BIOS, LCD dim adjust, Sleep issue and it related.

It continues to amaze me how indifferent Lenovo staff are to this problem. I have cited and contributed to this same topic -- bios update for 4446 series (our use and clients' is the -36U version) -- for months... literally months.

Since we have to support these for customers (ours) we'd expect a resonable response from 'the factory' and the product team ... at minimum.  But, no. We get to contribute to random citings of many users and tech people all trying to work around a straightforward, but ellusive fix... a bios update. Even a beta release would be better than months of nothing.

I agree that this sort of poor response from Lenovo concerning a widely used series (G530) here in the US with the cornerstone Microsoft OS is simply a sign of how little Lenovo cares about this market segment we are part of or serve.

I've said this within other G530 W7 Brightness issue posts.... Lenovo, please do the decent thing and at least respond with a cogent statement. What, when, and how will you update this BIOS. We can do the rest with W7 32 or 64.  It truly is not rocket science...   just a lack of respect for your customer base.

A plea.

Please, Lenovo, Cleo, Mark, whomever needs to do it....

Please give us an update on when we will receive a BIOS that fixes this problem.

It is just unimaginable, to have such lack of silence. Windows 7 is not completely installed or working until this is fixed, and you promised us it would be so for these machines.

Thank you for your prompt action.

I've changed the reminder here, as I've actually been contacted by Cleo_Lenovo.

This was a nice invitation to help as their engineering sorts out this problem, so we can hope for the best now, I think.

I'm a week-plus late in replying since I hadn't realized private messages might be involved, and just noticed tonight.

Thank you, Cleo.
