Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

2010-01-29, 15:14 PM

I recently also installed a new BIOS onto my computer to fix the brightness issue after I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Basic to Windows 7 Home Edition. Like most of you, my G530-4446 takes forever to post when I boot up and more recently, when it wakes up from sleep. I've been patiently waiting for a new BIOS update for Windows 7 for way too long and I'm extremely dissatisfied with the technical support that Lenovo provides for this issue. Even though we are a Value-Line series, we should not be overlooked and should have the same attention as ThinkPads or IdeaPads have.

However, I was wondering if there are any other G530 users out there who have this problem:

Whenever I close the lid for a short period the computer goes to sleep, and when I open the lid shortly after, it loads up quickly. On another note, if I close the lid in the morning and leave to go to class (which is roughly 80 min in length) and come back, the computer has gone in hibernation and I then experience the extended boot up time. Am I just a noob and have to change some settings in the power plan or are other people experiencing this problem as well?

sleep = power saving mode, stays on.

hibernate = actually shuts off  (while saving your session).

So of course, it'll need to turn back on and go through BIOS after turning off when it hibernates. nothing unusual there.

And officially, lenovo has lost a customer in me. I've been waiting for no less than three months for them to even SAY that they're WORKING ON IT, let alone produce a fix.

I got a PM saying that they were working on it, and that they wanted my email so they could get my input on the problem if they needed it.

zeroping, this is another issue - simply one of configuration.
  • right-mouse on the battery icon, and choose Power Options
  • notice which plan you have selected, and click Change plan settings on the right of it
  • click Change advanced power settings on the bottom of the dialog that appears
  • click the + sign before Sleep
  • click the + sign before Hibernate After
  • set the time before hibernate, both for battery and plugged in
Now you are in control.
Regards.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

Hi,

I notice that some of you have machine 4426-23U and 4426-24U. Can you especially Fullmetal99012 and
zeroping, confirm if yours are 4446 or 4426? If yours were 4426, do you experience the same problems, such as version 52 cause long post and version 1.09 installed but never solve the screen brightness issue?

The reason why i am asking this because the bios for 4446 and non-4446 are different.

Thanks!

Regards,

Cleo
