G550 SSD not recognised

2019-06-27, 21:17 PM

Hi - just trying to install a SATA III SSD (Integral V series) in G550 but keep getting "PXE-E61:Media test failure, check cable" message.   SSD works fine when in USB HDD enclosure.  Any clues how to get round this? I tried changing the SATA port from AHCI to IDE but same result - looks like SSD just not identified.

Just to add - I updated BIOS and repeated.  When I hit F12, SDD is correctly identified - but fails to enter setup, giving above error message.

SDD has clone of HDD on it.  Maybe I should try booting off some other device.

Any advice appreciated.

Dave

Hi DT88! Welcome to our forums community. Is the SSD detected under BIOS? If yes, check the boot priority. But if not, there is a big possibility that the SSD is not compatible with the laptop.

Hi - thanks for that - initially the SSD was not detected by the BIOS - but turns out it was my fault - I had initialised the SSD as GPT (which I guess would have worked on a newer laptop).  When I re-initialised it as MBT the BIOS recognised it and after a few hiccups all was good.

thanks again,

David

Hi,

It's looks like I'm running into similar problem.

BIOS fails to recognize SSD 860EVO Samsung.

The BIOS update to V2.53 (x64%2018CN44WW%20(V2.53).exe) didn't help.

Do you have any ideas?

Re:G550 SSD not recognised

Hi, I'm having a very similar problem with a Lenovo G550 and a new A400 Kingston SSD. The weird thing is that even the SSD disk does not appear in the bios, when I run the windows 10 installer from a USB memory I can see the Disk, I can create partitions and format them but the installation fails when I click next with the message "Windows cannot be installed to this disk . Ensure The Disk controller is enabled in the BIOS menu".

Also when the laptop is starting I can see the message "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable." before the usb memory installation is launched.

Does Lenovo support agents have something to say that may help?

Thanks in advance!

Hi DT88, it seems I'm having a very similar problem with my new A400 kingston SSD in the same G550. I tryed to convert the SSD to MBR and then to GPT, none of that worked for me. Would you share if you remember what were those hiccups you had before everything went good? I really appreciate your help in advance!

Hi Gnulegax - does sound weird - how Windows can partition a disc that the bios doesn't recognise is beyond me. Just to make it clear - I got the "PXE-E61:Media test failure, check cable" message when the SSD was GPT format - when it was initialised as MBR all was good. The hiccups I'm afraid I can't remember - but were probably just me making mistakes with the Bios or cloning process as I seem to have to relearn everything from scratch as I don't do these things very often! - Good luck solving it.

Hi Gnulegax, it seems I'm having the exact same problem, trying to install a Kingston A400 240GB on a Lenovo G550 and the BIOS (2.53) doesn't recognize it. But I'm able to see it when I'm trying to install the Windows (the Windows setup does recognize it), but, of course, it doesn't allow me to install it because the BIOS doesn't recognize it. Have you managed to resolve this problem? Have you tried with another SSD? maybe this model is not compatible with our laptop.

Hi DT88, can you tell me the exact model and capacity of your SSD (Integral V series), as I'm trying to see what SSDs are compatible for our type of laptop. I've tried with Kingston A400 240Gb, but the BIOS doesn't recognize it. I'm running into exact problem as Gnulegax that you've replied earlier.

Also, can you tell me if you're happy with the Integral SSD performance, is it worth buying? did you have any issues with it since you have it?
