G550 - Which Wireless 'N' Cards Can Be Used?

[ Edited ]

Hi guys Just purchased a Lenovo G550 in the UK and only just realised it only has 'G' wifi.

I understand only certain WiFi cards are suitable for Lenovo notebooks and that they must be on a ' White List'.

If so, can someone let me know which current wireless 'N' cards work well with the G550 or at least point me to where I can find this 'White List'?

Also, which WiFi card is considered the best performer?

Many thanks guys.

Re: Wireless 'N' Cards For Lenovo G550?

your notebook will take an intel 5100 n card but it will have to be a lenovo branded one or you will get the no-1802 error at boot up.  you're gonna need a 3rd antenna for the card.  i'm not sure whether your machine will have the 3rd antenna in there or not.  you can probably get an aftermarket antenna and slide it under the palmrest but the range won't be as good as the antenna that would be behind the screen.

Thanks for that topmahof.

Would this be a full size card or one of the half height versions?

If the normal size PCI-Express cards fits the G550, would an IBM/Lenovo compatible 'Intel WiFi Link 5300' work OK?

Thanks.
