G550 - Wierd problem with laptop keyboard & Windows 7

2009-12-08, 19:14 PM

When I use the laptop keyboard the cursor jumps around when I am typing. I am very careful NOT make contact with the touchpad. In fact, most times, I use an external USB optical mouse.  This is very frustrating. I will be in the middle of a document or email and all of a sudden my cursor jumps to another area of the document and i am typing in the wrong place. OR a whole section of text will disappear and I have to start all over again. (Ctrl Z does not bring it back.).  ALSO, when I connect and external USB keyboard to the laptop, I DO NOT have this problem. HOWEVER, connecting an external keyboard is not a solution to the problem. Has anyone heard of this problem? AND seen a solution? Thanks.

Same issue with me.  I have a G550 running windows 7.

Whether its Microsoft products, or just navigating in IE... The mouse jumps from area to area,, this is unaccpetable.

I also could absolutely not connect to many wireless G router,, after several hrs of frustration frustration I found a solution - uninstall the Lenovo ReadyComm software.  Works good now.

After the first Wireless issue, which I solved on my own.  Now this jumping cursor,,Lenovo doesn't seem to have a solution nor do they really care it is happening.

This is to the point of making the computer unuseable.  When your typing the cursor moves to another random spot of text...

Any suggestions/soluttions?

Thanks in advance

Larry

I have experienced the flying cursor problem also on my G550..

I turned off the Touchpad (Fn+8) and that seems to fix it.

So I'm convinced, unlike the previous poster, that the problem really is accidentally touching the Touchpad.

Alas, turning the Touchpad off with Fn+8 doesn't last.  In fact, just logging off reactivate it.

If anyone figures out how to permanently kill the Touchpad, let me know.

OK, thanks fn+f8 worked.

I still think Lenovo owes us a better solution....

I just spent 12 hrs over the wknd transitioning to this computer.

I don't know which is worse, living w/o any touchpad or returning the laptop with hopes a different laptop doesn't have the jumping cursor.

Regardless, thanks for the solution

I don't think it's just an issue with this model. My husband has a Thinkpad & it has the same issue. Also, he's running XP, so I don't think ti's a Win7 issue either. Must just be a Lenovo issue.

I am like the other person who posted. I do not use the touchpad. I use a wireless mouse. Could the touchpad pick up motion whether the pad is touched or not??

Sure wish there was a way to fix it.

I signed up to this forum just to say that I've got the same problem with my G550.  I've leased IBM Thinkpads in the past and have been very happy with them.  This G550 is in no way on par with the old IBM T40 and T50.  In fact I would give this up for one of those 3 year old models.

Has anyone been able to solve this keyboard problem?   Has anyone else noticed that the trackpad is kinda crappy?

Re: G550 - Wierd problem with laptop keyboard & Windows 7

I bought the computer a week ago. Thought the problem was me as I have never used a computer with a touchpad before. It jumps around if I am on my email, word etc. Very annoying to say the least.

Additionally I am finding that the "t" on my keyboard as well as the "y" and "g" are particularly unresponsive. Has anyone seen that?
