Re: G580 (20150) RAM Upgrade

2019-12-26, 19:34 PM
Hi Guys,

On Monday I added a new RAM (8GB). I added 8 GB RAM Kingston KVR16S11/8 (1600 MHz, DDR3 SO-DIMM; PC3-12800 CL11 1.5V). The RAM works without any problem. Now I have 12 GB. The 1st slot has an original 4GB RAM (Ramaxel Technology, RMT3160ED58E9W1600, PC3-12800 CL11 1.5V) and the 2nd slot has 8 GB RAM (Kingston; KVR16S11/8).

I have Lenovo G580 (20150).

Re:G580 (20150) RAM Upgrade

Just an update.

I bought a 2nd module of RAM, trying to achieve 16 Gb of Ram (2x 8Gb PC3 12800 CL11 204) (KVR16S11/8).

System does recognize both modules, but instead working faster than with only 1 8Gb module, works slower. I noticed that my CPU (i5-3210M) is working at 100% all the time, even if no task are ongoing.

I can use any of the RAM slots properly if I only put one piece of RAM so it is not a problem of the slot.

Any idea of what is the problem??

Thank you for any help.

Enter Crucial website. They have an application that tells you what ram you can install in your computer.

First of all, two documents:

PSREF:

https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo_Laptops/Lenovo_G40/Lenovo_G40_Spec.PDF

Hardware Maintenance Manual:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g_z_40_series_hmm.pdf

Information about supported type of modules, working frequency and maximum capacity can be found in PSREF. In HMM you will find the list of officially supported modules.

I tried installing Ubuntu 20 and it works perfectly with the 16 gb of ram, so it seems that the problem is with windows 10 somehow. Any ideas?
