My fix worked after trying several others. I went to start and typed power. The power management program was brought up. I selected it and clicked on the battery icon. I changed the setting to full charge on battery and it started charging. So far so good.

Hi! I had this problem too and answered it myself
It might not work for you though but giving it a try won't hurt:

I have consulted to technicians there, but they seems to have very poor knowledge regarding it and directly said to recover the system and change the battery. If so many people are facing the same problem with G-580 then Lenovo as reputed company should take some actions regarding it. My laptop is even showing 83%available(plugged in, not charging). Feeling like "what to do now??"

Here is the simple fix I done
1) Right click on the right bottom corner of your toolbar, Select Toolbar >> Energy Meter
2) Then Open the Energy meter
3) If conservation mode is already OFF, turn it ON. If already ON, turn it off.
4) Wait for a few seconds and you can see the battery started charging again.
