G580 Battery status "Destroyed"

2012-12-18, 7:53 AM

I am facing this problem for last few days with my ~3 months old Lenovo G580 laptop.

One morning, i switched on my laptop and found the battery indicator showing "88% available (plugged in, not charging)". and when i removed the power adapter, the laptop would just power off.

in short, the battery is getting detected but is not charging or working anymore.

At first i thought it was some software/driver problem but  then, i checked the Lenovo "Energy Management" tool and found that it was showing the battery status "Destroyed" (Screenshot below.)

Please guide me in solving this problem.

My system details:

Lenovo G580,

Core i5 3rd Gen, 4gb DDR3 RAM and 500GB HDD

OS: Windows 8 64bit

Thanks.

Sir,
I'm also facing this problem.
Even worse my warranty period is also over.
The battery was working perfectly fine and suddenly collapsed.
as my warranty period is over i wouldn't be getting it repaired so i request you tell me what is the problem with the battery so i can get it fixed by local market.....
Or i have to purchase new battery..

I have this same problem and am out of warranty.  Can you tell me if getting a new battery solved the problem?  I do not want to spend $80 on a battery and have it not solve the problem.

Thanks,

Diane

Battery will get out of warranty in 1 year.
Battery status destroyed.. Means your battery can no longer hold charge.
Its voltage it dropped below a certain level which cannot be recovered..
You can not charge it..
( however it might show 100 % fully charged but it's not you can verify it
using multimeter)

In my case it occurred because i over discharged it ( ie - powering on
again and again @ 0% battery )
I replaced the battery (costs about 4000 INR).
Now i don't use it below 10% and it's working fine with 3-4 hrs backup from
almost 1.5 yrs
