I've a Lenovo G580 Laptop (2nd Gen PDC B960, 2 GB, 500 GB, DOS) When I bought it came pre-installed DOS, and then I install Windows 7 ultimate (32-bit, i didn't know at that time, 2nd gen PDC are 64-bit). My friend recommend me to disable UEFI from boot setup before installing any non-genuine OS, so I did disable that. My laptop is working fine, but all of a sudden it started to do random mouse freezes, surprisingly pressing ALT+F4 works like a charm to make mouse work again (by mouse I mean pointer actually, I'm using Touchpad, i don't think its a h/w related issue)
I think may be it's because any virus/malware or whatever that was, and also I was planning to change my OS to Windows 8 (it's after 10-11 month of purchase date), so I decided to format anyway, instead messing up with mouse freeze problem.
Now strange thing happen at this point -
I'm not able to start my BIOS setup, nor able to use quick boot option (to select various bootable device option from list)
I try to press recovery key (small button near power button), that open recovery module properly (no glitch/error).
but unfortunately I don't have any backup made previously so no use of recovery module.
and then I restart my laptop, then I press F2, it shows the first screen of BIOS menu, but my system stuck there (unresponsive state), i've no option else directly turning it off by holding power key for few seconds,..
and then no boot menu F2, F12 still unresponsive.
means whenever i open recovery module it able to open F2 menu (not F12) but that stuck too.
else it just completely ignore F2, F12
I'm not a computer noob (not flaunting), but I spend last 4-5 hours looking for a solution for it, but couldn't find any solution by myself.
although my laptop is not in not working state. somehow I manage to install windows 8, but it's really weird that I can not access BIOS menu, my laptop is no longer in warranty period so I can experiment with it any way I want.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that G580 is not entering the BIOS menu and hanging at BIOS menu it at all it enters it, performing flee power should resolve the issue; below are is the step to perform Flee Power.
Do post us back if the issue still persists.

My issue is not fixed, but somehow i'm able to open my bios
1. turn off your laptop (no hybrid shutdown)
2. Press and hold F2 (while ur lappy is still off)
3. now power on laptop
(still holding F2,)
4. "Please wait" will appear, where previously was "F2 = Bios, f12= boot device" (similar to this text), with big bold lenovo logo in center
5. now release F2
voila its BIOS, which actaully functioning (no freeze)
well this works fine for me, my laptop is not in warranty period and i cant afford pc repair at this time, and also after a lot of googling I found that lenovo doesn't have a solid solution for this, they will just replace ur Motherboard, which would be costly, so i'm dealing with my laptop using this solution
even resetting bios, disabling-enabling few option doesn't seem to work
i'm not a n00b , i consider myself advance while using computers, bt this seem to be unsolvable problem.
u can try this if it works for u too

Thanks i even tried that as well but unfortunately it didn't work either!!!!seems like my BIOS need reflashing in other words they have to replace my motherboard!!!! anyhow my laptop is oonly 2 months they should replace motherboard with no issues!!! i see for Lenovo G580,Z580,G570,Z570 with UEFI bios having this issues seems like there is some bug with this series!! it's better to reliaze lenovo and make a BIOS updat for these models!!!

yeah obviously they to replace hdd because the la[top is OEM that only accept to specific motherboard!!!!if they don't replace i will get non-genuine error for windows 8!!! and there thing they can do is to embedd the serial number to the new motherboard exactly like old one may be using Eprom!!but in india they won't do it i suppose!!!so that is the reason they should replace hdd as well as mobo or new os installation dics and the motherboard!!!
