G580 failing HDD

I have a G580 which seems to have OneKey (version 8) installed (with "system backup" and "system recover" options but no "create recovery" option). The HDD is failing and will have to be replaced with a new HDD. I assume this means I will have to use the NOVO button to start the recovery process. Will the "System Recovery" version of OneKey copy an image from an external disk to the new HDD (without access to any of the files on the original HDD)? I currently have no other method of booting the G580 (using e.g. recovery USB) as haven't seen anything about creating one.

In addition, of the four NOVO button options ("Normal Startup", "BIOS Setup", "Boot Menu", "System Recovery") I cannot select "BIOS Setup" or "Boot Menu" - "Normal Startup" seems to be run instead. Am I missing a something? "System Recovery" loads "OneKey Recovery" which I exited at the first step as not yet ready to proceed.

The OS has been upgraded to Win 10 from Win 8, so would prefer not to start from the original, if it's possible.

Thanks.

Re: G580 failing HDD

Hi s0ph1ecat,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I am not optimistic that you may still be able to create a recovery image with a failing drive.

It may be better simply clean installing a new image on a new hard drive with a downloaded Win10 ISO.

On another pc you can get it from here.

Activating Windows 10 should not be a problem initially skipping it during installation then update Windows specially if you have Windows 10 synch with your Microsoft account. Drivers can be downloaded from here.

Else, you may need to go back to Windows 8 and upgrade to Windows 10 inside Windows.

Hope this help answer your query.

Update us how it goes best for you.

Regards

Re: G580 failing HDD

Hello spidey101,

Thanks for the advice.

I was afraid I might have to go back or re-install windows. I have an offer of a free 128Gb drive (just have to collect) if I want to proceed. And the screws holding the covers on are also small and difficult to shift (proper screwdriver required) (nothing is ever simple)

But until I get alter boot devices etc I'll put it all on hold. I'll raise another query on the menus (I've tried all those I can)
