G580 won't shut down properly

Hi Everybody!

Last week I installed the windows 8.1 pro x64 version on my G580 laptop. Everything went fine before I installed the drivers and a BIOS update. After that my laptop wont shut down despite the fact that the windows is shut down properly. It seems like the processors and the video card's air vent is still working. I can only shut down the laptop with the hardware power button, althought that's not  the best for the computer... I tried to set things at the power management system but it's didnt worked.  What can I do now  or at least what's the problems source? Anyone with similiar problems? I'm really afraid it's a problem with the motherboard.

I'm looking forward to your answers and would appreciate any response!

Re: G580 won't shut down properly

Hi Marobgy,

  Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try turning off the Hybrid Shutdown

    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6320-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-8-a.html

If still no changes

Lenovo energy Management and try installing this version

    Lenovo Energy Management

and make sure you got all necessary Windows updates.

Let us know your findings

Cheers!

Solid Cruver

Re: G580 won't shut down properly

Hi

I am experiecing the exact same issue as mentioned above.

I have removed the fast start up in power management and have also installed the energy management you have suggested, but still no solution.

I have updated the energy management again and tried to shut down, but still the issue persist.

I have removed the hiberfil.sys, but still no luck.

When I restart the laptop it works fine, but only when I shut down the laptop it appears as if it is hanging.

I have tried a shut down using AC only(no battery inserted), but it only worked once yesterday, now it is experiencing the exact same issue when running on AC.

I wanted to try a BIOS update as there is a newer version available, but I cannot update the bios as it wants to shut down the laptop and remains hanging.

Do you have any suggestions I could try?

Your help will highly be appreciated.

Re: G580 won't shut down properly

hi alucard,

Castlevania ei ! Smiley Happy,

Can you try Holding the shift button on your keyboard then press the power off / shutdown option,

See if there is any difference with the normal shut down.

One thing is to try doing a clean boot and see if that will work with shutting down.

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Re: G580 won't shut down properly

Hi

I have tried basically everything I found on the internet and it did not solve my problem.

I have contacted Lenovo support and have to take my laptop in for a bios update and probably a repair today.

Thanks for the help though Smiley Happy.

Re: G580 won't shut down properly

Hi

It appears to have been an issue with the mother board or bios.

They couldn't access my bios, so they had to replace the mother board.

Thanks for the help.

Re: G580 won't shut down properly

Here is how to fix Laptop Won’t Shutdown Problem In Windows 10

1- First of all, click on the Windows icon and when it expands out, click on the Settings app.

2- When the Settings app opens up, click on the System option.

3- Find the option Power & sleep from the left pane of the System window. Now in the right window pane, look for a link that says Additional power settings and click on it.

4- A separate window named Power Options opens up. You need to find and click on the link that says Choose what the power buttons do from the left window pane.

5- If you scroll down through the window that gets opened up, you will be able to see that the Shutdown settings are greyed out. To ungrey them, you need to click on the link that says Change settings that are currently unavailable.

6- Now the Shutdown settings will be ungreyed. Uncheck the check box corresponding to the option that says Turn on fast startup (recommended). That’s it. Hit the Save changes button and you can exit.
