Hi alainbrizault,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m glad to inform you that the F4 & F2 will perform the same functions in Excel 2010 as well as 2013, below are links to check the Keyboard shortcuts in Excel 2010 & 2013:

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Hi Everybody,

I have the same problem, no matter what the BIOS settings are the F4 key is simply shutting down every application and therefore cannot be used in Excel to set cell references. Could you please give me a hint how to solve this?

Regards Martin

Das ist zwar nicht die perfekte Lösung aber es funktioniert im Wesentlichen

You have following choice to resolve the F4 problem:

A. You may contact your local Lenovo Service Center (Lenovo Field Servicers and/or Call Center Agents) to resolve the problem. The F4 problem is a warranty problem. There is the solution to change the BIOS. Question is only the competence of your local Lenovo Service Support.

B. You may return your machine to reseller under warranty.

C. You should read http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G700-f4-problem/td-p/1228707

There is described that you can find the new BIOS at http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/hnt/7acn89ww.rar

There is also described how to install it. This procedure is a very fast solution of your problem but it is at your own risk.

1. Download the new BIOS from above mentioned site - thats not dangerous - and expand it with an expansion program (http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html?tag=dre) or (http://www.7-zip.org/) - you finally should get a file "7acn89ww.exe".

2. Turn down your notebook

3. Start the BIOS - use the Novo Key (instead of the start Button)

- the Novo Key is right next the Start Button and is explained in the manual

a small window - Novo Button Menu - will open where you must choose "BIOS Setup"

4. In the BIOS Setup go to "Configuration"

5. In Configuration choose "Bios Flash Back" an set it "enabled"

6. Go to "EXIT"

7. Choose "Exit Saving Changes"

The steps until now did not have any risk but from now on be very careful and follow exactly the instructions.

The notebook will restart. The notebook should be connected to external power and the battery should be in the notebook.

8. Start the 7acn89ww.exe (you downloaded before)

The program will advise you exactly what to do. Do not switch off or disconnect from external power until the program is finished. As far as I remember the process run about 10minutes. Don't become impatitient. The program will turn down the machine and restart (as far as I remember 2 times).

9. After finishing the F4 (orf Fn+F4 depending on your BIOS settings) should work perfectly.

some more information:

There was a web-site:

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/hnt/7acn89ww.exe

to find the 7acn89ww.exe directly.

The information came from:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT080432

The content of this site was:

Function Key "F4" Cannot be Implemented with Customized Function - IdeaPad S500, Lenovo G700

Symptom

For IdeaPad S500 and Lenovo G700, customer defined special function for “F4” when playing games, but when “F4” or combination “Fn+F4” was pressed, it implemented the original windows function "close current window", no matter "Hotkey Mode" is switched to Enable or Disable.

Affected configurations

The above symptom may occur to the following systems:
Ideapad S500, Lenovo G700

The above symptom may occur to the following software:
S500 BIOS version lower or equal 7ECN21WW
G700 BIOS version lower or equal 7ACN89WW

Solution

For S500:
Updateing BIOS to version 7ECN23WW can solve problem.

For G700:
Updating BIOS to version 7ACN89WW can solve problem.
