Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that there is no other option to change the functionality of the Hotkeys in G700 Laptop without using the Fn Key in the computer, it can be Enabled/Disabled these are the only option available in computer and its BIOS.
Do post us back if the issue persists.

I also have the same problem.
I disabled hotkeys in G700 Bios and f1-f3 f5-f12 works as normally Fx keys... but witout F4. This key still acts as alt+F4 in all OS - Windows 8, Fedora, Ubuntu and many others linux distros...

I have the same problem, and it is big problem for me - I'm using special software, where F4 is important key for using it (as ESC in normal keyboard). In this situation I can't do my work on this laptop
Lenovo, do someting with it, please...!

I've recently bought a G700 with Windows 8 but I'm finding it impossible to use the F4 key functionality in applications such as Excel and Adobe Acrobat (I only use Desktop applications).
I've tried the Fn-F4 key combination and all that happens is that Excel/Adobe etc is closed rather than utilising the F4 functionality within the respective programme.
Searching this forum, I found threads for other models suggest that the Function Keys normal functionality can be swapped in the bios by disabling HotKeys, so I've tried that. Still no joy - the applications just close.
Aside from cursing the person who detemined that the F4 key should close applications, can anybody please tell me how to cure this?
Preferably I'd like all the Function keys restored to their "proper", industry-standard, functionality without having to use them in combination with the Fn key, but my immediate priority is to just be able to use the in-application keyboard shortcuts and certainly the F4 functionality is one that I regularly use. I've tried various combinations of keys, with both bios settings and all that happens is that my applications close. As you can imagine, trying to get anything done is very often frustrating and long-winded to say the least!
Oh, and I'm no IT expert (but am an experienced and competent user), so if somebody has a solution, could you please explain it in simple terms for me (e.g. instead of just "install an updated driver", I need to know where from and a bit of how!)

Yes, I found myself at the very same spot after 3-4 hours of using the laptop.
You can configure the F1-F12 to be first (not a Fn+key) in the bios settings.
But the F4 key is sending Alt+F4 key combination anyways, it doesn't matter if it's used as regular F4 or Fn+F4, result is the same.
I wander if this issue can be fixed by new version of BIOS, of some driver patch to the OS (I'm using the W7 x64). If this is a keyboard controller (hardware) issue - it's going to be a bigger problem. But if it's managable via software. I'd really like to get it patched anytime soon
Please keep us posted on the solutions that we can apply to fix this.
thx, for understanding...
