[Help] Lenovo G470 video card problem.

Hello guys, I try to be detailed as possible in this problem.

While watching a H264 MKV AAC video using mpv using this parameters:

mpv --vo=opengl-hq:lscale=lanczos3:cscale=lanczos3:dither-depth=auto

my computer suddenly blue screen with this dump. [download here :], summary detail of BSOD(Nirsoft BlueScreenView):

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: atikmpag.sys

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x1000007e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0x000000000000ff00, 0xfffff880031af8d8,

*** atikmpag.sys - Address 0xfffff88004011b1a base at 0xfffff88004000000 DateStamp

After my unit restarts, the drivers is gone and display "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

I tried to install this drivers based on Lenovo websire:

AMD Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo G470, G570

ATI Discrete Graphics Driver

And both installer hangs when on "Detecting graphics hardware"

I tried to UNINSTALLALLGRAPHICSDRIVER.jpg (incude Intel graphics driver) and reinstall them (first the intel graphics driver: Intel Onboard Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - Lenovo G470 and G570) and the problem still exist.

I tried to manually update the driver using the *.inf file and it failed.

i tried to reinstall them all in safemode. still failed.

I'm hopeless right now, can someone help me?

Re: [Help] Lenovo G470 video card problem.

Day 1 having no support.

I can't conclude that the onboard video card is dead, if it's dead, the OS shouldn't not detect it. Also lubuntu detect my onboard graphics card (but can't install because of livecd limitation)

lubuntu@lubuntu:~/Downloads/fglrx-14.20$ sudo lshw -C display

Re: [Help] Lenovo G470 video card problem.

Good day.

Please recall that this is a peer-to-peer support community, where members share their knowledge and experience with Lenovo products and services with one another. It is not a dedicated and staffed Lenovo support channel, as is stated in the Community Guidelines.

With that in mind, it's quite possible that no other members have experienced what you're seeing, and so have no advice to offer. If you require dedicated Lenovo support, you'll need to contact them directly. I've included contact info below.

Hope this helps to clarify.

Re: [Help] Lenovo G470 video card problem.

I have the same problem with G470, But at first I started having problems with facebook videos and some youtube videos (chrome and explorer dont display the video, just the sound). When I came back to the old video driver or if I disable the video I could watch the videos but I had problems with chrome and explorer and another general issues with the video driver so I came back again to the new lenovo video driver and just forget about watching facebook videos. But after a few days the blue screens starts and the computer turns unusable.

Now the computer is stable but I really don't know why, I will put the things I did.

  1. - I restored the computer to fabric settings. There was no problem at the begining but as soon as installed the windows 7 home basic updates it starts to blue screen again. (I didn't think that the updates may be the cause at this stage)
  2. -I changed the hard drive for a new one and I also clean the DDR contacts. Then I installed a new copy of the same windows (7 home basic). Same problems. I started having general issues when I was installed softwares, so I updated the video drivers and when the windows installed his updates the blue screen come back.
  3. -Then I tried other drivers from amd with no results.
  4. -I also looked to another windows updates problems at 2013 it had issues with the video driver. But that update was not installed in my computer, and the solution was already installed in my computer.
  5. I updated the BIOS, nothins changes.
  6. -Finally I update the discrete driver from lenovo support. (not just the video driver) The odd thinks is that I did update this driver the first time with no result and I still can't watch facebook videos but I least I haven't had blue screen in two days.
I'd appreciate information if someone knows how to solve this problem. I'm not having blue screen at this moment but I think it is just a matter of time because I still have the video problem.

Re: [Help] Lenovo G470 video card problem.

Well, as I expected the blue screen is appearing again. I'll wait some weeks with the video driver disabled  for a solution before dropping this computer to the trash.

Re: [Help] Lenovo G470 video card problem.

I have the exact same problem as the opening post. Now I am stuck with that Standard VGA adapter. I can't even watch videos now because it lags too much. Any solutions?

I bought lenovo because the sales told me they are durable and long lasting...
