Normally I run my G770 laptop plugged in without a battery in, to help preserve its lifespan. In preparing to take it somewhere, I put the battery back in to charge it to full. However, I noticed that the battery appears to be discharging even though my laptop is plugged in. It still works fine with the battery out and plugged in; it is able to draw power from the AC adapter, but when I put the battery in it appears to stop and discharge the battery rather than charge it. I have tried this while booting both Windows 7 and Linux Mint with the same result; Windows 7 explicitly says on the system tray battery icon that is is "Connected, not charging". If I plug it in with the battery connected and the computer turned off, the battery light on the front turns on which I assume means it is charging. (But then, this light is also turned on when the computer is running) Once the battery charge reached 50%, the icon did change to indicate charging, but it won't charge past 50% or discharge under it. How can this be happening and what do I have to change to allow it to charge the battery while running again?

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,
I’d like to help you with the issue that you’re facing,
Could you please turn off the machine and unplug the battery and connect the charger and then press And hold on the power for 10 seconds and then plug in the battery back to the machine and turn on the laptop,
And then we will uninstall Lenovo Energy management application from your application list and reinstall it back from the below link:
And please check the battery option to make sure that the battery is not set to be in option that prevent the battery to charge past 50%.
Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Okay, I installed the energy management software and found the option that controls how much the battery can charge, so that is fixed. Does simply being at full charge degrade the battery, even if it isn't connected?

Yes changing this option will let the battery charge to 100% and if the battery is not connected it will keep the 100% charges on the battery.
Please share with us if the battery now is charging to 100%.
Thanks and Best Regards,
