Lenovo B50-80 HDD Caddy Problems

2016-12-29, 20:30 PM

Hello,

i have problems with my Lenovo B50-80, running Windows 10.

Before this Laptop, i had a HP with a SSD. I replaced the 1000 GB HDD from the Lenovo against the SSD.

Next step was to replace the ODD against a HDD Caddy with the 1000 GB HDD.

The Problem is, that the HDD is not running. The HDD is visible in Disk Management, but i cant initialize it. It also shows up as "unknown".

If i try to initialize it as GPT, a warning shows up, that say that the size of the Disk is to small for GPT. Initializing with MBR there comes warning that System cant find data. Dont know what that means.

I thought maybe the HDD is destroyed ore something like that. So i tried it with my tower PC directly connectet via SATA and it worked fine. I also formated the disk with the Tower.

Then i tried again with the HDD Caddy and the Laptop but it did not work.

In Device Manager it shows up and says, the disk is running without Problems.

In Disk Part, the HDD sometimes shows up (with 0 Mb) and sometimes not (which is strange...)

In Testdisk, i cant see the HDD.

Does anybody know where this problem comes from?

Maybe it has something to do with energy savings? Like switching of the ODD when not used?

I tried the whole day, but did not find a solution or wokaround.

(sorry for bad english)

Hi headbad and welcome to the community,

From the discription you have provided, i believe that the HDD may have protection on it to stop it from being read from a caddy. can you plug the Drive back into the main slot and go into BIOS and double check the setting in there to see if anything is set.

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on
