I had set up Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit on my Lenovo B590 laptop but when I ran the Windows Camera app and Skype I had the error message:

"To get started, connect a camera"


There is a possibility that this error occurred as a result of the driver for your system's camera being overwritten, or not installed during the upgrade to Windows 8.1.

Our community member experienced success with the following workaround:


  1. Re-install the Integrated Camera Driver and reboot the system if necessary.
  2. When finished, navigate to the Device Manager and look an item called imaging Devices - this will show and verify if the camera device is successfully instaled on the system.

If the camera is successfully detected, try opening Skype or the Windws Camera App and observe.
