You really only have to unsolder just one of the terminals to break the connection.  Try to de-solder and solder quickly so that the battery doesn't get hot as Lithium batteries can be hazardous to work with. Just so that you are aware.

 

Once a battery terminal is disconnected, press and hold the laptop's power button for 30 seconds.  This will insure that the motherboard is completely drained and the CMOS cleared.
