Hi Marcosvalmeida,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking for a RAM upgrade in your G40-70 laptop.

As per the specification of the laptop it supports DDR3L and this model supports only DDR3L not DDR3 hence I would suggest you to look for DDR3L memory card, also would like to suggest you to visit the service centre for further details.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

It looks like your notebook supports DDR3 Low Power modules in 1066 and 1333 speed. I do not know how many slots your notebook has, nor what is currently installed.

You can download your service manual to view procedure for replacing (upgrading) memory. Also - if you only have one memory stick installed, and a free (open) slot you can purchase a similar second stick is the easiest way to go. Match type, size and speed and you will be fine.

If all available slots are filled, and you are at or below 4gb chances are you have a 32bit OS installed, if you increase your memroy size above the 4gb level you will need to install a 64bit OS to make use of it.

Good luck.

Download your service manual and look for memory modules listed in the "Parts" section.  Not only can it tell you what memory to purchase but how to install it.

Good luck.

There are several things that can go wrong to limit speed.  If you are using a 32bit OS (Windows or Linux) and you increase the system memory beyond 4gb it will have issues and work slower than it should.  Also - if you look at the "available" memory it will show less than 4gb total.

Not knowing what memory came installed when purchased, whether the additional memory is a match to it and whether purchased new or is used makes a difference.  Also - how you added the memory to the notebook may have signifcant problems attached.

To better understand the issue please respond with type of Operating System including 32bit or 64bit installation information, the original memory specifications, the manner used to perform the upgrade and what software you are using to test the speed.

Cheers.

I am using a 64bit os. My current ram is 4gb. If i remove my current ram and added this new ram, system show 3.92gb
. If both ram combine,it did show 8gb. It perform slower then before. Current ram 1rx8 the new ram is 2rx8.

Re: Lenovo G40-70/80GA - Ram Upgrade Issue

The current RAM and your new RAM should match each other identically.  From the service manual it indicates several different DDR3L 8gb sticks are on the approved list and I would chose from them if possible, purchasing a matched pair.  IE...  Two SK HMT41GS6BFR8A-PB/RD 8GB DDR3L 1600 sticks (Samsung) to provide 16gb of total memory.

The reason behind this is differing memory manufactures (assemblers) use various producers to supply their chips to use on the sticks.  This can cause issues when you are attempting to use memory from different sources (Kingston, Cruial, Hynix etc) in a desktop or notebook computer.  Not only are the timings going to be different, the arrangement (Rows, dual or single sided, etc) will be different as well.

I have never supported "mix and match" memory for notebook computers as they are very picky about what will and will not work.

Cheers.

I would reccomend downloading your maintenence manual and reading thru the CPU upgrade section.  Also - look into the parts list for CPU that you can use for the update.  Some notebooks do not have an upgrade for the CPU as the socket is not removable.

Good luck.

Re: Lenovo G40-70/80GA - Ram Upgrade Issue

2016-01-07, 21:03 PM

I have the same desire to upgrade RAM in my G40-30 (from 2 Gb till 8 Gb for example).

So please let me know about performance of new one.

According to specifications table in Hardware Maintenance Manual it should be the next:

RAM: DDR3L, 1066MT/s,1333MT/s

Otherwise in parts list I can see another characteristics:

RAM, M471B1G73QH0-YK0 35nmQ 8GB DDR3L 1600

RAM, Hyn HMT41GS6AFR8A-PB DDR3L 1600 8GB

RAM, RMT3160ME68FAF-1600 8GB DDR3L 1600

RAM, Mic MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G6E1 DDR3L 1600 8GB

RAM, M471B1G73DB0-YK0 25nm 8GB DDR3L 1600

RAM, SK HMT41GS6BFR8A-PB/RD 8GB DDR3L 1600

So which friequency 1333 MT/s or 1600 MT/s should be choosen? Or it doesn't matter?
