Lenovo G450, Chipset GL40, Socket P (478), compatible to Intel T8300 / Intel T9500

I'm thinking of upgrading the CPU of a Lenovo G450 Laptop:

Regarding the present CPU - Intel Pentium T4400, Socket P, Frontsidebus 800MT/s, TDP 35W and Chip Type Penryn-3M - of the Laptop I figured out that the Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 would be the a good choice.

 

However I found this thread, concerning almost my problem:

The post from MU_Engineer (4 January 2013 15:12:31) states that the similiar Chip Type Penryn-6M should have a high chance to run in my motherboard. Another time viewing my specifications, the Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 would be the strongest possible CPU applicable to my G450.

 

The only thing that now stops me from buying is the missing information concerning the actual BIOS compatability.

I already installed the latest BIOS Version (v 44, released on 4/30/2010) from your download center but couldn't find any clues.

 

Does the T8300 or maybe even the T9500 is compatible with the latest BIOS version for my mainboard? Please help me!

I think there may be more issues with upgrading a notebook of this vintage than just replacing the CPU.   Most of the '09 notebooks that I get in my shop I will not upgrade as when you try to open the case the plastic fails, the mounts break and it rarely goes back together right no matter how gentle you are with it.  That results in having to find and replace shells, surrounds and sometimes even daughter boards...  not worth it in the long run.

 

You may have better luck and gain better performance with purchasing a new notebook now, as they are very affordable (sub $400.00 us at Best Buy right now). 

 

Reasons behind this are:

  • Better power management
  • Better system architecture
  • Better connectivity options
  • Increased storage capacity w/faster thru put (SSD).

New notebooks have much better batteries, draw less power and produce less heat.  They also have stronger CPU offerings, faster I/O paths (SATA, SSD and bus speeds) as well as USB, HDMI and other good updates all around.

 

Just some thoughts...
