hey, i have this EXACT same problem with my lenovo g5070 running win 10. All the symptoms described in this thread are evident:
freezing intermittently, especially when launching OS (at account log-in),
almost no running noises, then suddenly noisy with ordinary hdd clikcing noises, including fan noises,
and has refused restoring, resetting (but with saving personal files only since i have sensitive data that i regrettably didn't back up), disk-checking hangs forever, then says no errors,
safe mode also works fine throughout
please please help!!!

Sorry to hear about your issue.
The very first thing you have to do is to take a backup of your valuable data.
Go through https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/solutions/migr-4yqntq and try to do as instructed.
This will solve your problem.
