Lenovo G460 ram upgrading problem

2018-11-14, 2:24 AM

Hope u can help me on this one..

Back to 2010, I bough an Lenovo G460 laptop (Original Specfication as I bought from Lenovo) specification as below:

Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC3 DDR3 SODIMM 204pin memory (M471b5673FH0-CF8),

500 GB HDD,

i5 - M450 2.4GHz Processor

running Windows 7 Home Pro 64 Bit

and fews years later I upgraded the ram from 2GB(M471b5673FH0-CF8) plus another 2GB (HMT325S6CFR8C-PB) , 2GB+2GB = 4GB and running smoothly.

Now 2018, I wish to upgrade my memory rm from 2GB+2GB to 8GB (Kingston 8GB DDR3L 1600Mhz Low Voltage SODIMM)(KVR16LS11/8GB)

So I bough single 8GB and I replaced my old ram. But when I turn on my computer, it had problem with windows, blue screen error. stop code. showing SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED and it turn off automatically. And when I turn it on once again, it showing other error such as IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.

Please advise why this happened? Is it the ram incompatible or problem? what is the another option for me to upgrade to 8GB? is it used 4GB+4GB instead single 8GB?

Hi fiqz90!

Welcome to the community forums.

I checked the specifications of the Lenovo G460 laptop, yes, it can support 8GB and it has two slots for the RAM. Based on the specifications of this laptop, it will only work with the combinations below and not with a single 8GB RAM. You can check this link https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd022732?CID=ww:lenovosocial:20x9m6 for more info.

1 x 1GB (DDR3 1066MHz)
2 x 1GB (DDR3 1066MHz)
1 x 1GB + 1 x 2GB (DDR3 1066MHz)
2 x 2GB (DDR3 1066MHz)
1 x 4GB (DDR3 1066MHz)
1 x 2GB + 1 x 4GB (DDR3 1066MHz)
2 x 4GB (DDR3 1066MHz)

Regards,
