Re: Screen banding on Lenovo G50-45

Hello,

I have just purchased this same laptop. It is having the same pixelation issue with dark colors. If this issue cannot be successfully resolved, I will be returning this Laptop and speaking to the Fry's purchasing representative about the "Value" Lenovo is actually providing. Please, respond quickly.

I have updated to the latest drivers, set up Color/Brightness/Contrast appropriately. This is very poor business practice, and I am not very happy.

I really can't believe this laptop is still on the market. Are we all just screwed completely? They stopped answering a long time ago.

Re: Screen banding on Lenovo G50-45

Ya I fixed mine, just looked for similar variant laptop which is intel based graphics and did a m0th3rb04rd transplant. Similar variant laptop M O B O will fit in the G50-45 casing, so you can reuse most of the other components. I didn't have skill to mess with bios chip, so I just replaced the whole m0th3rb04rd.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 - Gradient Display Problems and Banding, Dark/ Dim Display

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0012

... the problem has nothing with TN-screen!!!

I recently tried to use LP140WF1  IPS screen and NOTHING CHANGED!!!

http://www.panelook.com/LP140WF1-SPK1_LG%20Display_14.0_LCM_overview_23292.html

This problem is caused by `pure` 6-bit color LCD nature with no `masking technology` enabled at GPU so advice to adjust anything is just terrible JOKE!

I'm ordering now 8-bit IPS screen, shame on you LENOVO!!!!

This is the last LENOVO notebook I ordered for our company - because the support is just NON-EXISTENT Smiley Sad

How is it possible that after a year there is no BIOS fix for this AMD related issue like other manufacturers did????

Gradient banding problem still not fixed

The infamous gradient banding problem found in Lenovo g50-45 & some other models has still not been fixed. The solution according to most would be to release a BIOS update that enables dithering.

I hope the people in charge of the BIOS update enable this, as it is clearly needed for the cheap 18bit display.

Please Lenovo staff, show this thread along with the original threads to the devs. This issue needs to fixed, especially since this particular model has sold through three versions of Windows.

Also, sorry about any spelling/grammar mistakes.

Mod's Edit: Merged this thread with existing discussion.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 - Gradient Display Problems and Banding, Dark/ Dim Display

GOOD NEWS!!!

I tried new AMD drivers Crimson Edition 16.3.1 Hotfix and with 6bit LP140WF1 screen the dithering is suddenly on and GRADIENTS ARE 100% GONE Smiley Wink

https://community.amd.com/message/2712676

But with virtualy the same 6bit LCD NV140FHM the dithering is disabled, with original AUO B140XTN screen it is disabled too...

But the good news are that:

-AMD HW is 100% capable to do nice dithering

-It is issue with AMD drivers

PLEASE MAIL TO AMD or report issue to:

http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D23A3DE979

The more people will contact them, the higher chance they will FINALLY solve this annoying issue....

thanks
