Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

Lenovo G50-45, Model Name: 80E3. Mfg Date: 14/06/04

S/N: ************.

So I have this notebook that keeps rebooting. First I tought it might be with the OS so I reinstalled it with latest drivers but the problem kept on going.

Tried out 2 versions on memtest but during testing it rebooted without any warning of finding error on the ram.

Tried both slots separatly, no change. Instaled a new memory of 4gb PC3L and problem persists.

Dont want to risk a bios update cause the reboot might happen during update and will certainly kill the laptop for good and I dont want to remove the bios chip to reprogram it.

Warranty run out on this laptop few weeks ago.

Any help?

LE. Did these test with the hardrive removed.

Mod's Edit: Serial number removed from public view to protect owner from its unwanted use.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

Hi there, Scootie                     -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Have you looked at your component temps, charging generates a lot of heat, it would be its overheating and slowing down to protect itself when charging. Get a system monitor program that monitors CPU temperatures.

If you get high temperatures, you can try to decrease the heat by:

  1. Using a good quality cooling pad that runs on high RPM or a better cooling in your room.
  2. Replacing the stock Thermal Interface Material with a good quality TIM like Noctua NT-H1Tuniq TX-4, or Artic Silver 5.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

The system was cleaned before testing commenced. To my surprize it was clean anyway. The cooler works as intended, the heat that comes is best warm and not hot at all.

Kindly advise when the machine exactly restarts (Ex: While playing games, Surfing internet, Normal work...Etc.)

Re: Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

The system doesnt have a dedicated videocard so I dont play games, on cold boot it reboots while its loading windows. If if gets to load the OS, I dont even use it, leave it alone with the desktop and it reboots on its own after a few minutes.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

Sorry to bump up this old thread. I do face the same issue with my Lenovo G50-45 with AMD A8. The laptop boots and logging in to windows and suddenly reboots again. I tried the following

1. Use a different RAM

2. Power Drain by pressing power button (power cable and battery detached)

3. Use a different HDD and installed windows afresh

4. Opened up laptop and cleaned fan

5. Applied thermal gel to processor

6. Boot up laptop with USB stick (windows installed in USB)

None of the above prevented the restart.

Any idea what could be the problem? It doesn't look like a power or BIOS problem as the laptop doesn't reboot when in BIOS setup screen.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

Hi Ritesh1111,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

So it seems that it would show the Novo menu initially and then restarts after a few seconds even without the battery and harddrive. You may also try checking the adapter (page 21 of the hardware manual).

Moving further, try to remove the optical drive and ram(disconnected charger). Press and hold again the power button for 1-2 minutes. place back one RAM at a time and plug in only with the charger.

If you have the time, try to clean up the fan/cooling system and reapply thermal paste .

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Lenovo G50-45 keeps rebooting

Hi Ritesh1111

Greetings.

You may have to have the laptop checked for probable system board issue.

They would be able to confirm the point of failure with the board and can further check for options.

Regards
