Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

I tried booting up my laptop this morning but all it's doing is flashing the Lenovo logo, powering down and repeating the process. I can hear the fan starting up and shutting off as well. I did a bit of research and found that this is a common problem and I tried the potential solutions but so far nothing has worked. I tried starting in safe mode, opening task manager and just pressing the power button to turn it off but it's not responding to any of the commands. When ever I remove the battery, unplug the power cord and hold the button for 30 seconds and put the battery back it in just resumes the loop without me even pressing the power button. When I close my laptop it seems like it's shutdown (no sleep light or noises from the fan) It was working fine all day yesterday there was a bit of a power outage while it was plugged into the outlet but it was still working without an issue Should I just let it run until the battery runs out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

Hi Erethos,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would help isolating a bootup issue with a failed POST (power on self-test) scenario here on our case.

Unplugging and removing the hard drive (page37 of the hardware manual here) from the machine should allow us to stay and navigate through the BIOS splash screen halting any Windows boot.

Without the hard drive, plug in the AC adapter and use the Novo button (item 7 page 69) to power on the system. The Novo Menu would appear and BIOS setup as one of the choices.

You may take this opportunity also to backup your files from the removed drive by placing it in a hard drive enclosure or another machine if needed. Else placing the hard drive while doing the Novo key would have System Recovery as one of the options that can do a factory reset but would lose your data file in the process.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

I tried what you suggested and the Novo Menu show up for a few seconds but then it turned off and resumes the loop except now it goes from the Lenovo logo to a blank screen and in the top left corner it says "Checking Media-. The sound it's making is not coming from the fan like I thought before. It's coming from the cd drive. It makes two noises and the green light on the button to open the cd drive blinks twice at the same time as the noises. So far the order of things are: Lenovo logo, Checking Media, screen off, two noises and blinks coming from cd drive, repeat. Do you think the noise is the POST? I looked it up and two "beeps" means Parity circuit failure Here's a link to the sound it's making https://instaud.io/15eB (if there is a better way to share the mp3 please let me know) Thanks

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

Hi Erethos

Could you try removing the CD drive and harddrive at the same time. then use the novo button to turn on.

A working BIOS flash screen is a good indication of a successful POST. It verified that the motherboard on a mahine level is able to interpret the command and process it.

Hey I tried removing the cd drive, hard drive and the novo button but it's still doing the same thing except this message popped up for a split second:

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

Hi Erethos

Now that we do not have a harddrive or a CD drive, we expect that message for IPV4 network boot as the system cannot find a boot image to start.

Without any battery, just plug the ac charger and try to turn on normally then keep tapping FN + F2 on start in hope that the BIOS menu to appear.

Would it still not show any display ?

If so then probable issue could be a failed display chip or integral part of the systemboard that you need to have it checked for board servicing with any local service center.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

Alright I took out the battery, hard drive and, cd drive and tried to boot it up normally, I hit fn + f2 and the same EFI Network boot failed thing popped up like before. But! It stayed. It's no longer going in a reboot loop. I hit enter [Ok] and another message popped up (1.jpg)

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

I tried booting it up again today without the hard drive, cd drive, or battery. after I hit fn f2 this new menu showed up right away. What do you think I should do next. Do you think it was the battery that was causing the loop? Thanks

Mod's Edit: Image of BIOS screen was removed for owner's protection as it showed the serial number of member's computer

Re: Lenovo G50-45 laptop stuck in booting up limbo

Hi  Erethos

This image is the BIOS screen.

Try going to exit tab and load optimal defaults then save and exit.

Turn off and unplug the charger and try placing back the SSD and HDD but without the battery.

Plug back the charger and normally turn on using the power button.

If this goes on a loop, remove the SSD and keep the HDD on restart.
