Lenovo G50-70 RAM Upgrading issue

2015-07-23, 1:43 AM

Hello,

I have a Lenovo notebook (G50-70) with xxxxxxxxxxxx. I want to upgrade memory from 4GB to 8GB. Would you please advise on the following issues?

1: Are there enough slots in the mainboard for me to add another 4GB memory?

2: If I can do this, please tell me the exact memory chip that I should buy from? Parts number and manufactory please.

3: Would you please advise if it is easy for me to do it myself?

4: My PC is nearly out of warranty period. To install a new memory, will I just open the back cover and plug the memory into the slot? Could you please advise if I need to do other things?

BTW, can I buy the part from Lenovo and how much will Lenovo charge for in total to ship it to my home in Sydney?

Thanks and kind regards,

G. Zhao

Mod edit:  Removed serial number to prevent abuse.

Hi Ashwin,

Regarding the following message, I could not find the RAM you listed. I got some RAMs as the following. Could you please advise if they are okay to use with my Lenovo G50 laptop? If they are okay, which one would you pick from?

And also, can I put 8GB RAM into a slot and another slot as 4GM (total as 12GB)?

Thanks and kind regards, Gorton Zhao

Hi Gorton,

Thanks for the information.

As you have short listed 3 RAMs, as per the specification all the three will support. I would pick the Kingston KVR16LS.

You can also visit the nearest authorised service centre for further details.

 Best regards,

Hi Gorton,

Yes you can have two different sizes, but both the RAMs should meet the same specification as mentioned in the earlier post.

Best regards,

Re: Lenovo G50-70 RAM Upgrading issue

2016-04-16, 15:20 PM

Hello,

I also want to upgrade my Lenovo G50-70 RAM from 4 GB to 8GB. My model no. is 20351. Does my laptop support dual channel?  It curently has RMT3170EB68F9W-1600 stick in one slot. I am thinking to put another 4 GB RAM for video editing. I found two RAM options online from India:

 1. http://www.amazon.in/Kingston-DDR3L-1600-PC3-12800-KTL-TP3CL-4GFR/dp/B00IOC7P18?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A2L9IATVUI8ITW

 2. http://www.amazon.in/Transcend-4GB-DDR3L-1600-LAPTOP/dp/B00B5LOOJG?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=AVZW9QZ9BO8BU

I prefer the first one which is KTL-TP3CL/4GFR. Will be able to use dual channel? If not atleast can I get more RAM of total 8 GB by adding 4GB. Thank you for your support.
