Lenovo G50-70 touchpad issue- cursor jumps and freezes

[ Edited ]

While scrolling on the touchpad on my Lenovo G50-70, the cursor will regularly jump to the side and start moving back and forth across the screen.  This has been happening since I first bought the computer several months ago but has gotten progressively worse and happens nearly all the time while scrolling.  It occasionally happens while I am not scrolling as well.  I contacted Lenovo and the contact tried to correct the problem (though he did not explain what he was doing).  He told me that to do any more work I would need to purchase a maintenance plan.  However, this has been a problem since the day I bought the computer so it is clearly a defect.  Any advice on how to fix this problem?

Re: Lenovo G50-70 touchpad issue- cursor jumps and freezes

Hi NancyLupi1,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with touchpad in your G50-70 laptop.

As you have mentioned that the cursor jumps, please try to boot the system to safe mode and check for the issue.

Also try to decrease the sensitivity of the touchpad and check for the issue, by go to control panel, select mouse option. Under mouse select mouse setting option, under mouse setting option select touch sensitivity option and try to reduce the sensitivity and check for the issue.

Also try to connect the external mouse and check for the issue. Also upgrade the touchpad driver and check for the issue.

Click here for the touchpad driver for windows 7.

Click here for the touchpad driver for windows 8.1.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Re: Lenovo G50-70 touchpad issue- cursor jumps and freezes

I have the same problem.  My touchpad is completely unusable, the mouse cursor jumps all over the place.

I've got a new G50-70 on Win 7 Pro Sp1.  I have the latest driiver ver 17.0.14.74/11.4.31.1.  I tried adjusting the touchpad sensitivity, but that didn't help.  An external mouse works fine.  I tried booting in Safe mode and the touchpad mouse works fine in Safe Mode.  So I guess it's a software problem.  What can I do?

Thumbs down on support from Lenovo.  I posted this 5 weeks ago and haven't heard a thing.

I disabled the trackpad and just use a mouse.  I don't think I'll buy another Lenovo.

Re: Lenovo G50-70 touchpad issue- cursor jumps and freezes

Hi all,

Sorry for delay in response.

As you have mentioned that the touchpad is working fine in the safe mode hence it could be a driver issue, please uninstall the current driver completely and reboot the system. Now install the latest driver and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

Re: Lenovo G50-70 touchpad issue- cursor jumps and freezes

No change.  Touchpad still doesn't work properly.  I have the touchpad disabled and just use a mouse.  I don't like having to do this, but it's the only way this laptop is usable.
