Lenovo G500 RAM and SSD upgrade.

Hello,

I have the Lenovo G500 Model 20236 and I would like to upgrade its RAM and Hard disk.

I used CPU-Z to find out which RAM I have and found 2 GB and 4 GB with 800 MHz.

RAM1.PNGRAM2.PNG

If I kept the 4 GB and installed new 8 GB

Kingston DDR3L 8GB SO DIMM 204-PIN (KTA-MB1600L/8G)
ArtNr: 2818854
  • 1600 MHz / PC3L-12800

Would both work fine together?

What would a good SSD to install instead of my old HHD?

Thanks

Re: Lenovo G500 RAM and SSD upgrade.

Hi WOthman,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per general specification for the RAM :

Up to 16GB DDR3- 1600Mhz(Support Dual Channel) [2 SODIMM slots (1x2GB/2x2GB/1x4GB/1x2GB+1x4GB
/2x4GB/1x8GB/2x8GB)]

So a combination of 4GB + 8 GB DDR3L(low voltage)-1600MHz should work with no issue expected.

Since SSD was not offered at the time G500 was marketed, there is no specific SSD suggested by OEM so instead you may check with other resellers for an option like crucial using an adapter. Check for return options just in case.

Do take time to review similar discussions here, here and here as it offers more information about SSD upgrade and how you may benefit best with the speed and other advantages SSD offers.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards
