Re: Lenovo G500 Upgrade

Hi there, Xaoss           -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can use utility tools like CPU-Z to find out the exact RAM that's installed on the system and the type of RAM that you need for the upgrade.

  - Sample image

Alternatively, you can also look under the hood and check the sticker on the RAM to know how many sticks you have and the type of RAM that's installed (i.e., If you have 2x2GB DDR3L-1600 sticks then you will need to get a 2x4GB sticks).

  - Sample item

You can also check page 28 & 86 of the G500 hardware maintenance manual (this unit can take up to 2xDDR3L-1600 (1.35v) and the list of RAM modules are available in 2GB,4GB,and 8GB so this means the unit can take up to 16GB

In addition to what topgear have mentioned, your issue might be similar to this thread.

As per testing done by DownTownBrowne , replacing the stock Intel® Pentium 1005M CPU is possible but you would need to check first if the motherboard comes with an HM70 or an HM76 chipset.

If the machine comes with a Intel HM76 Express chipset, you should be able to put an Intel I5-3230M 2.6Ghz (the i5-3210m 2.5Ghz is not supported)

If the machine comes with a Intel HM70 Express chipset then the CPU upgrade is only limited to the Intel Celeron/Pentium series. it's still possible though to upgrade to an i5 CPU but it will not be practical as you would need to change the motherboard too.

Compatible processors as per the G500 hardware maintenance manual:
