Lenovo G500 screen not working before the Windows 10 lockscreen appears

Hi everyone,

 

I have a strange issue with the screen of my Lenovo G500. I've had this device for 3 years now and it always worked fine. A couple of month ago, it started not to show the boot animation anymore, so the screen isn't on until the Windows 10 lockscreen appears. But that is not the biggest problem.

 

After every Windows update, the screen won't even turn on at all. I know the device is booting, I can hear the fan, the LEDs at the bottom are working and when I connect it to an external monitor, that monitor shows the lockscreen and everything works fine.

 

I then have to shutdown the laptop and remove the battery and turn it on again and again. until the screen works again, which sometimes takes a couple of hours. What's weird though is that once it works again, the boot animation is there, but only once. When I turn on the laptop the next time, it's gone again.


I hope someone on here knows how to fix that problem.

Welcome to the Community Forums.

 

The way the symptoms are presented as you described seems an LCD starting to fail.

As external monitor works fine and that LEDs respond appropriately but just not showing display internally.

A fresh surge of power to the LCD panel works as it builds but unable to maintain.

 

Booting on the BIOS using the Novo button to turn on the machine isolate it with the drivers and Windows.

 

If reseating the LCD cable would not help , it most likely need LCD panel tested .

Here is the hardware manual for your machine (page 73-74 for LCD).
