My laptop has a keyboard where i have to use the FN key to use the function keys at the top, instead of having to press the FN key to use the action keys. ive been looking everywhere for a way to make it so i dont have to press the FN key to use my function keys, i looked at the bios but i dont see an option to disable the action keys, nor can i find an option anywhere elce in my laptop to set it like that, does anyone have any idea how to change it? id even embrace an option to go into the registry to swap the on/off signal of the FN key. if that even exsists

Your problem migh be similar to this thread.
If you don't have the keyboard remapping feature in the BIOS, using an app called SharpKeys will allow you to switch function keys (i.e. Fn+F1 to a regular F1 key). I can't test this on the G500s as there's no available unit here in the lab but this tested and verified working on the Z400.
Give it a shot - Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 7 / XP / Vista (works also in Windows 8)

i tried this one first, it works for some of the keys, but for the program doesnt recognize some of the action keys, so it wont let me remap them all and i kinda need them all, f1-f3 and MAYBE f10 would be the only ones that id be able to fix

If anyone could possibly get me the scancodes for the F1-F12 keys and the scancodes for the action keys attached to those, i could probably do a registry script to try and switch them up

Is there any solution provided by Lenovo?
I thought that maybe latest BIOS upgrade would bring a feature to switch function keys behavior but unfortunately it didn't.
Sorry, but it's annoying to need to use additional Fn key for combination with function keys when we're used to normal function keys usage & key combinations.

Yes, this is truly unbelievable. PLEASE Lenovo, sort this out asap. There must be a way to set the function keys to work in the regular way without Fn. Who on earth thought up that stupid idea? It's almost as if they designed it to be as irritating as possible.

I completely agree with you. It seems to be one of those "bright ideas" implemented by somebody who has never actually used a laptop. The really exasperating thing is, it would be so easy for Lenovo's engineers to fix. They could provide an option to disable this "function" or just offer a script to download and run. It's not a big deal for them, but it's a huge annoyance for anyone who wants to do work with this laptop.
