Probably not a BIOS patch, more like a Windows Update bug... Lots of Windows 10 issues have cropped up after the last few rounds of updates were installed.

The SATA controllers (chips) can sense when a drive gets "extended" command sets and sometimes this can become corrupted at the driver level, thus the removal and re-installation of the drivers provides a fix. Grab the chipset drivers and re-install with latest version.

Good luck.

I have installed the lastest chip set drivers the problem is still there.

So i installed the older version that is available in the lenovo website in order to check if there is a case that old drivers work but nothing found.

I think other solution can be replacing the caddy , might be it is faulty as some people has already reported that Caddy works well in Lenovo G510

I already reinstalled everything including windows, and no fix. Also, i hooked the HDD in the caddy to the laptop and a pc via a SATA-USB adapter cable, and it works just fine, so i think its not a hardware issue on the caddy.

I went to shop.

He tried about 5 NEW caddy , but same problem on ALL OF THEM either on them the Windows 10 is not displaying or 1 caddy makes it disappear or not working after 2,3 minutes.

I bought the SATA USB Cable also now will use for that but i am still thinking about one option that is left.

Have you tried ordering from this link:

http://hddcaddy.com/en/lenovo-ibm-hdd-caddy/866-lenovo-g510-hdd-caddy.html

I see alof of thread are using from this one and it is working for Lenovo G510.

I bought mine for 10€ from ebay, but it was working before.

About the IRST driver, download the driver from the lenovos page, run the setup, and chore remove, then run again and install it. Maybe its going to work.

The most funny thing is that i had issues with the AMD driver, long story short: i ran Display Driver Uninstaller and uninstalled all intel and amd drivers, and reinstall all drivers, and the drive was back and working just fine for like 2-3 restarts of the laptop, and then gone again..... And i was like what the hell! How grapics drivers affect hard drives?

I think i have a solution.

I disassembled the laptop till the top cover comes off. At that point you can access the sata connector that goes to the optical drive (HDD caddy). I unplugged the ribbon cable and removed the crews. Then i cleanded the connectors and the cable with an unused toothbrush. Reassambled and the HDD is working fine. I stress tested it and restarted many times.

What was suprising is that the cable does not have any locking mechanism. I travel 2x3 hours a week and always pack my laptop. So this could cause the trouble.

0 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too

Expecting a "consumer" notebook to act as tough as a "business" notebook?  Anyone that is a "road warrior" should be using a tougher business class notebook - in Lenovo's line up that means "Thinkpad" notebook.  Why?  Simply put, they are tougher, expected to travel around a lot (business trips, conferences, etc...) and connect to multiple networks and such.  Consumer grade notebooks are meant to be moved around the house, and are not anywhere near as robust.

I'm expecting from a "consumer" grade laptop not to fall apart after 1 year. I had to torn apart the laptop to fix an issue that coud have been prevented with a 2 cent component.

I am hugely disappointed in lenovo in the past year. My friends G510-s screen and then the mobo died 2 months after warranty expired. An other friends Y700 had mobo failure and still have issues. It was sent back to warranty repair 2 times.
