Lenovo G550 Wi-fi speed crushingly slow.

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm hoping you can help. up front i'm a total ludite.

Recently i've been haveing  extream slow speeds with wifi only.

I've had the modem changed, the cords changed and tested etc. etc.  the wifi on my phone is perfect, the wifi on the laptop is brutal

I've run the lenovo service bridge and put i my serial number and it keeps telling me it's a desktop. I think i've updated the drivers correctly and it's still abhorently slow.  update tells me that there's nothing to update. up until about a month ago everythign was running fine.

Please help?

Hi Riverdale,

Welcome to the forum.

I would like to know a bit more about your issue.

IS your unit running Windows 10?  the problems with the wifi started when you changed the modem, before, later?

Have you tried with different browsers (Edge, Mozilla, Chrome) and your internet is  slow with all of them?

Do you have any antivirus installed?

As a first step I would suggest you to check the extensions enabled in your browser and eliminite the weird ones. (go to settings and then extensions)

We can go further once you give us more details.

Regards.

Re: Lenovo G550 Wi-fi speed crushingly slow.

Hi There,

Thank you for replying.

Running win10. have been for the last year or so. The wifi issues started a few months ago. I've spoken with my internet provider several times. Eventually they suggested a change of modem and that it might be a a firmware issue. That doesn't seem to be the case.  It's still extraordinarily slow.

I use chrome as a default, my antivirus is bitdefender, has been for years.

I haven't been able to get lenovo site to recognize the laptop serial number. I'm concerned that might prevent getting the right updates?

Re: Lenovo G550 Wi-fi speed crushingly slow.

Hi Riverdale,

Can you check in device manager if you have any network device listed as WAN Miniport. If so please uninstall you wifi card  make sure to delete the software driver of the card, then restart the laptop. If your wifi card is an intel wifi card, download the latest driver for windows 10 from www.intel.com. Then download the windows update troubleshooter from here. Run the troubleshooter and hide any update for the wifi card.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
