Re: Lenovo G550 processor upgrade

Just wanted to commend and help to someone...

I have Lenovo G550, Model 20023, with nVidia GeForce G210m graphic, and chipset GM45/GM47...

I bought laptop with CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 and 3GB of PC3 8500S memory...

Now I have G550 with CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 and 8GB (2 x 4GB) of PC3 8500S memory....everything working perfect...Next on list is SSD disk...I'm thinking to remove optical drive and in its place to put current HDD, and in place of current HDD to put SSD...after this I'll have quite good machine...but, final upgrade should be CPU QX9300, which is on compatibility list for GM45 chipset, but currently its price is beyond my budget, and it would be pretty expensive trial Smiley Happy...

Re: Lenovo G550 processor upgrade

Hi, my Lenovo G550 are the CPU Intel Pentium T4500 / FSB 800, but in this moment buyed Intel Core2 Duo T9400 / FSB 1066.

After test with HWiNf64 - System Sumary the maiboard is Lenovo NITU1 with CHIPSET - GL40 (Cantig-GL)+ICHSM(base) / BIOS (05.05.2010/18CH45WW-V2.54.

It's posible runing the new CPU with FSB 1066 MHz vs actual CPU with FSB 800MHz?

Many thanks for your support to all.

Re: Lenovo G550 processor upgrade

It uses an 800mhz bus speed and will not support CPU's that use higher bus speeds.

Re: Lenovo G550 processor upgrade

As I wrote more than 3 years ago I made successful upgrade to 8 GB of RAM and to T9600 CPU, and my laptop is still working. While I’m reached the maximum of RAM I think, in accordance with what you can find on the web, that max CPU is QX9300 for the gm45/47 chipset. Unfortunately, QX9300 is still expensive trial for me, its price is about $60-70 as I found, but if your budget allows you, I encourage you to try with QX9300, and to share your experience. Also, you should take care about cooling, if you can, buy top quality thermal grease, and replace cooler with more efficient one. BTW, my cooling system is as delivered with laptop, and with demanding apps laptop will shut down because of overheating, but still, I’m amateur upgrader and I’m not quite sure if I cleaned the laptop well, and if I put thermal grease in all the right places and in appropriate amount.
