Lenovo G570 DVD Drive Problems

Hi, I'm having some problems with my Lenovo G570 CD/DVD drive. It can no longer read DVDs or CDs, or eject. Also, it no longer appears under Start>Computer. Any advice?

Re: Lenovo G570 DVD Drive Problems

Hi, you can check the device manager first if the dvd/cd is not on the list or if it shows its not installed properly.  If not installed properly or it shows an exclamation mark, right click it and uninstall it, then restart the computer to reinstall the dvd/cd driver.

If it is unable to install properly or just doesn't show under mycomputer try this instead:

1. Open regedit

2. Try to remove the Upper & Lower filterGo to the following location in the registry :HKLM\system\currentcontol set\Control\class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}-----

3. On the right panel look for Upperfilters or Lowerfilters and delete them.

4. Restart the computer and check if dvd/cd driver is being installed

5. if installation fails or is still not detected on mycomputer, its possible that the dvd/cd is faulty.

Re: Lenovo G570 DVD Drive Problems

Hi dream2005,

If you can see the dvd drive in the computer drive list but is unable to read disks, try to test it with other disks even audio cds if it can read them. Its possible that the sata cable is loose or the dvd drive itself is faulty. One last thing to check is to try to reinstall the dvd driver manually by doing these steps:

1. Click start then right click computer
2. Click properties and check the upper left part of the screen
3. Click device manager and look for DVD/CD-ROM drives
4. Right click on the selected DVD/CD-Rom and click uninstall
5. Your computer will prompt you to do a restart and go with it
6. Your dvd driver will reinstall automatically then again
7. If your dvd still can't read disks I suggest you call the Lenovo support center in your location for further assistance and possible dvd drive replacement. Here's the link http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/feedback/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76613

Re: Lenovo G570 DVD Drive Problems

I followed the steps above; however, when I got to Device Manager there is no "DVD/CD-ROM drives" item in the list. I have restarted the computer, and the DVD drive still does not show up anywhere. What's next?

Thanks.

Re: Lenovo G570 DVD Drive Problems

hi tlspowers,

Then I guess that is why this is happening.

The Physical Drive is not being detected by the computer any more.

You can try re-seating the DVD Drive, Its going to be very easy.

Just remove one screw at the bottom

then there will be a small hole where you push the Drive out then Pull it out.

After that Plug the DVD Drive back firmly, See if that works it should be detected Under Device Manager.

if not, I would Suggest Calling Technical Support for assistance Possible that the DVD Drive or the connection has a problem.

Hope this helps,

Solid Cruver
