Lenovo G580 20150 CPU Upgrade`

I have a Celeron B830 on this G580 20150 laptop that I've tried to upgrade to i5-3210M and with no ability to POST to bios. I have the latest version of the bios there (V9.01). I should be able to upgrade to this processor, correct? If so, could anybody point me in the right direction as far as being able to upgrade to the aforementioned processor? Thanks.

Re: Lenovo G580 20150 CPU Upgrade`

There are several CPU's listed as compatible in the Maintenance Manual on or near Page 105...

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g480_g485_g580_g585_g780_hmm_v1.0_english.pd...

There is the link to the manual, would suggest drilling down to the parts list, look at the CPU's included and pick from them.

Good luck.

Re: Lenovo G580 20150 CPU Upgrade`

So, I know for a fact that the i5-3210M that I have in hand is compatible and has the latest bios but still can't boot into BIOs after the ugprade. Why is that?

Did you perform a power drain on the system after you upgraded? If not I would recommend trying it to see if it will pull in the changes to BIOS and reset CMOS settings.

If still not showing, would you mind telling me how you attempt to enter bios?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of doing. So remove battery and ac and hold power button for 30 seconds and then press the ^ key next to the power button, correct?

Exactly, and good luck... Oh, before I forget - did you replace the thermal interface (goop) on the CPU / Heatsink?
