Lenovo G580 (20157) CPU upgrade

Hi community,

i own a Lenovo G580 (20157) that came with the Intel i3 2310m (Sandy Bridge, Socket 988B rPGA) and NVIDIA GeForce 610M.

I would like to upgrade it to the Intel i7-3520M.

My motherboard is:
Model Lenovo G580 (CPU Socket - U3E1)
Version: Not Defined
Chipset Vendor: Intel
Chipset Model: Sandy Bridge
Chipset Revision: 09
Southbridge Vendor: Intel
Southbridge Model: HM76
Southbridge Revision: 04

BIOS: 62CN97WW

Can anyone tell me if it's compatible? Or could you please provide me with information about which processor I can use?

Thank you.

Re: Lenovo G580 (20157) CPU upgrade

Hi LiEater,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As mentioned in similar discussions here and here, hardware manual (page 101 item11) does include PN 102500295 (Intel I7-3520M 2.9G L1 4M 2cPGA Processor) as a candidate for upgrade sharing same G2 socket and with compatible HM76chipset to support it.

Above discussions also have fellow members shared their upgrades done.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Lenovo G580 (20157) CPU upgrade

Hi all,

i've just finished CPU swap from the i3 2310m to a i7-3520m without any hassle. I also purchased an SSD (bye-bye optical drive) and another 4 GB RAM (Hynix) which is identical to what I have been using for the past 7 years.

I am very pleased, those changes have made a world of a difference!

Thank you for your time and have a nice day everyone.
