Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

Hi Puneet,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

Firstly, Check BIOS? Sometimes a BIOS has fan speed controls.

This is normal as the game is running and full GPU is utilized, if the temp increases more than normal.  I suggest you to use the Laptop by placing it on a flat surface for good ventilation.

Please go through the below link to understand about Safe Temperature range for CPU?

  1. Click Here
  2. Click Here

You can refer the below thread for BIOS downgrade

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Shashi Kumar

Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

i have read that post but, as it says in the post that  older bios versions are on the support page of Lenovo, but for lenovo G580  the older bios version i am looking for is v37(62cn37ww), but only v40 and above is available.

Also i have cleaned the fans, and checked the temperature of the cpu, they are going above the safe temperature,

also the programs mentioned  in the post like tpfancontrol, etc do not help in laptops. The fans don't even get detected by the software.

Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

Hi Puneet,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing .Please Contact Lenovo service center to have a check on the Heat sink Fan , May be the Fan is not dissipating the heat properly , also there is no downgrade for G580 if the BIOS is updated cannot be reverted back.

You can try for any malware which is affecting the process.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Shashi Kumar

Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

Thanks Shahi_Lenovo for prompt reply.
I have done a clean install of windows 10. Should i update the bios to a higher version v96 or v97 as listed on lenovo support page. Will that help to improve performance?

Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

Hi Puneet,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Thank you for quick response.

If you are sure, then YES updating BIOS can be very helpful. BIOS updates can do many things. They can add support for new CPUs, allow Overclocking, or even change parameters like smart fan speeds. Just make sure you do not lose power.

As per support site, BIOS driver available for G580 so far is V96 for windows 8.

Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

thank you for quick response.

the bios v96 says "This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on Lenovo3000 Gx80/P580/N581/N580 " , also there is a v97 http://support.lenovo.com/ae/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-G-Series-laptops/Lenovo-G580-No...

if i update the bios to v97. can i downgrade it back to v40 by running the v40 bios update file?.

Re: Lenovo G580 20157 Performance.

Hi Puneet,

Sometimes BIOS updates contain stability enhancements, security updates, performance enhancements, and support for new hardware, and even CPU microcode which can further improve performance. It is a good idea to keep the BIOS updated.

Let us know how you get on.

Shashi
