Lenovo G580 HDD not detected

Hi Leno Support,

I have a Lenovo G580 Laptop with the following configuration.

Bios Config

Bios Ver: 5ECN41WW(V4.00)

EC Ver   : 5EEC41WW(V4.00)

Lenovo SN: xxxxx

Board Number: 3071841301492

UUID No: 2210A4F6-6B91-11E2-A4A6-2089843F35BD

Intel Core i5-3230M @2.60 Ghz

System Memory : 8192 MB

Hard Disk: Not Detected

USB Legacy:Enabled

Wireless Lan Support : Enabled

SATA Controller mode: Compatible

PXE Boot to LAN: Enabled

Power Beep:Enabled

Intel Virtual Technology:Enabled

UEFI Boot : Enabled

Network Boot : Atheros Boot Agent

My laptop suddenly just won't boot up one fine day, an when I go into BIOS, this is the info I get.

I tried almost all permutation combinations of BIOS, with no result.

Removed the HDD, tried using it in an external Lenovo Laptop, it works with no issues, so I presume it is not an HDD issue, coz I was able to read and write to my HDD with an external Lenovo Laptop using a compatible connector.

Note that while using AHCP Enabled mode, the system is not even allowing me to get into the BIOS setup(F2).

I had to literally remove the HDD again and then set the AHCP mode to Compatible.

I can extract the data from the HDD since it's working, but that's not the point. All my work is tailor configured on this laptop with a lot of licenced softwares. Don't want to reinstall and reconfigure ALL of them.

I'm completely lost here... Kindly advice ASAP

Re: Lenovo G580 HDD not detected

Dear mammenc,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Please try to,

1- Turn off the laptop >> unplug the charger >> Remove the battery >> Hold the power button for 20 seconds.

2- Connect the charger only >> Hold the power button for 10 seconds.

3- turn on the laptop and access the BIOS >> Press FN+F9 to reset >> yes, after that press FN+F10 to save and exit.

Try the above and feed us back please.

Re: Lenovo G580 HDD not detected

Dear Joseph,

Thank you for the response.
I think i found the problem. It looks like the DVD writer had a conflict. I just removed it and everything fell back into place like a jigsaw puzzle.
When I reconnected it, again the same issue.
I didn't try the method adviced by you, but defenitely have made a note of it.

Thanks a lot again for the advice. Will keep in touch.

Re: Lenovo G580 HDD not detected

From the information posted, the BIOS settings may have been corrupted, or become unstable. To fix this, one must drain the power from the notebook to force the BIOS to reset, then enter BIOS and "set defaults' to bring in the factory settings for optimal performance.

Once this has been done, the boot order in BIOS will return to working order and the system should respond normally.
