Lenovo G580 booting problem - Boot then black screen, then restart

2014-07-12, 12:05 PM

I've had my laptop for 1-2 years and have so far been somewhat satisfied with it, until I ran into this problem.

Whenever I start up my laptop, the lenovo screen will appear- sometimes it says 'Preparing automatic repair' underneath. About a minute later, this screen will disappear and the screen will turn completely black. After about 4-5 minutes, the lenovo screen will appear again, and then I get the Win 8 error message 'Your PC ran into an error and has to restart'. And then will restart, and repeat the cycle.

Also, this is not relevant to the main issue- but the cable controlling backlighting has been damaged, and so I need to shine a light onto my screen to see what's on the monitor and an external monitor will not work until I install drivers- and so it is difficult to actually see the display until I repair said cable. When I connect a HDMI, it will just display the black screen- and so I know that there is nothing on the display at this point.

I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or not- as I took my computer apart to fix one of the hinges a couple of weeks ago. I've also tried the onekey recovery button. No luck either unfortunately.

Thanks in advance

Lewis

Hi Lewis,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I’m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is displaying black screen in the Inbuilt/External Display. Hence, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

  1. Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
  2. Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
  3. If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue.
  4. Now access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
  5. Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on “F9” Key and select YES.
  6. Now click on “F10” Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Hello Shiva and thanks for the attempt to resolve this issue.
However, the Flee Power method does not seem effective, as the problem still persists.
When I attempted to reset the BIOS on the other hand, when I press F2 on the Lenovo screen- when the startup screen stopped loading, I instantly get the Windows 8 "Your PC has run into an error and has to restart" screen.
It doesn't seem like I can change any settings on this PC.
Any additional advice?
Thanks very much
Lewis

Hi Lewis,

As the issue persists even after performing the possible troubleshooting steps and the OKR (One Key Recovery) is also not working as expected. I would suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards
