Lenovo G700 no desktop

2013-12-20, 22:00 PM

i got my lenovo g700 2 days ago and it worked great. i havent changed any setting even yet because i dont know how to use windows 8 great yet. the only thing i have done is download a handful of games through steam.

today i tried to change settings and nothing under task manager wouldnt open, so i restarted my laptop (of course not manually or anything dumb like that)

when it opened back up it got to the password screen and i enetered my password and it went to a black screen, but my mouse still worked. after playing around a little bit i realized i can open task manager and open any files from there, but i do not have a desktop and i cant get to the start menu.

i dont know how much more detail i need for help.

i restarted it a few times and nothing

**edit**there is nothing on it that i really need, so if i vcan reset it to factory settings that would also be fine with me**

restarted comp-password screen-put in password-opens to a black screen where mouse still moves around but nothing is there (no desktop files, no start button, no side drop down thing)-task manager still opens

please let me know what i need to do to get this working. i cant think of anything that should have caused this to happen

Hi neverhadchilly.

Your best option is to reset factory defaults.

Todo this, Shut down your laptop, Press the onekey recovery button(Small button next to power on).

You will see four options, Scroll down to recovery & hit enter, Follow the on screen prompts to reset your laptop.

Hope that resolves your problem.

And welcome to the forum.

Hi neverhadchilly :) is the bios detecting the GPU ? is there an option in the BIOS allowing you to select dedicated or integrated GPU ?

I Have also just had the same problem, running absoloutely fine yesterday, and now back to square one setting all up again. Only had it yesterday, as soon as I restarted, I couldnt get back on

Is there a fix for this rather then keep reinstalling from scratch, just in case it happens again

Cheers

Jack
