Lenovo G710 and installing intel WIFI AC 3160

I 'm very disappointed.

According to this:

http://support.lenovo.com/gr/el/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g710-no...

8ECN95WW
Modified:
1. Correct Intel 3160-AC WLAN combo card SSID.
8ECN94WW?
Modified:?
1. Support Intel 3160-AC WLAN combo card.
2. Fix the S3 LED abnormal issue.
3. Update N15V-GM VBIOS to N15V_GM_75_17_84_00_FF.

Using the latest BIOS , I can install an intel wifi AC 3160 card.

Well, i purchased a card and installed, but the system doesn't boot. " Unauthorised wireless card, please remove it " screen.

Why are you having this restrictions ????

Re: Lenovo G710 and installing intel WIFI AC 3160

Hi Lefteris82,

The answer is not so simple.

Your system was never shipped with this type of card.

Please see Hadware and Maintanence Manual:

G710 HMM

Therefore there is no FRU for your system. This are not necesarly bad news but it means you gotta do a bit more homework.

This card was shipped with the following systems:

  • E450, E550, E450c, E550c
  • L450

What you need to do search the hardware manuals for those systems and find the FRU for that card.

You must take into consideration the following though:

1. Your system must have compatible Drivers

2. The type of card must be the same (same lenght and same connection)

Hope the information sets you in the right direction.

I have exactly the same problem. I ordered a INTEL Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 1x1 AC + BT HMC from Amazon, placed into my G710, checked my BIOS is up to date and got a "Unauthorized Wireless network card is plugged in. Power off and remove it".

Reading G710 Laptop (Lenovo) BIOS update it's clearly saying "Summary of Changes -> 1. Support Intel 3160-AC WLAN combo card."

So what's wrong and how do I solve it?
