Lenovo G780 - Keyboard (some keys) not working

Hi

I have G780 laptop (about 2+ yrs old) Since couple of days back, I have noticed that some keys on keyboard are not working, to the extent that I am having to use on-screen keyboard to post this message! To be more specific these keys are not working/responding at all (rather I should say died) - Z X C V M <, >. and "Enter" key. As you might have spotted, majority of dead keys belong to 5th row on keyboard.

Just to ensure if everything is fine and key board is seated properly  I have opened keyboard, removed dust (though not much settled) and reseated the bus. I knew it cannot be a connection issue as other keys are working fine! Also USB keyboard is working perfectly without any issues

Please Can you guide me towards resolution? Is there any fix available or replacement is the only option? If later is the case where from I can purchase "genuine" spare keyboard and it's cost?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards,

Chinni

Re: Lenovo G780 - Keyboard (some keys) not working

hi chinnileno,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First Try running an On-Screen Keyboard

Press Windows key + R and type in OSK then hit Enter

Try the keys that are not working in the Onscreen keyboard.

If it worked properly then it might seem a Hardware Problem.

You can check the keyboard resellers online like this one or you can Contact Lenovo Technical Team in your location and ask for the part replacement sale. You can reach them here:

Re: Lenovo G780 - Keyboard (some keys) not working

Hi there,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, I tried OSK and it worked fine (including the keys which were not working with onboard laptop).

So that implies, as per your previous response, that it's a hardware fault and hence replacing it with new compatible keyboard should work fine. Am I right?

But, other issue is, I could not find exact replacement keyboard for G780 online! One I could find, link as below, is for G580. Would this work with G780 as well?

http://www.amazon.in/GIZGA-Laptop-Keyboard-Lenovo-G580/dp/B00TQSSBWG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=14381604...

Also, my laptop is out of  warranty period! In that case, Can I still order spare one from Lenovo without any additional chanrges? Please clarify.

Once again, thanks a ton!

Regards,

Chinni
