Lenovo g460 ram upgrade

2020-09-03, 21:20 PM

I want to upgrade the ram of my lenovo g460 laptop. Currently, its Windows 10 with 64bit os, 300g harddrive, intel core i3 2.13ghz  intel series 5, with elpida 2gig ram 1066ghz.

originally its windows 7 and then i upgrade to win10, after that  my laptop becomes very slow. i did try to fix it by stopping other stuff from running but it didnt work. i checked on the memory usage its consuming the whole ram speed even there’s only one or two open folder. So I guess i really need an upgrade.

my question is, will Corsair 4GB (1x4GB) 1600MHz PC3-12800 204-Pin DDR3 SODIMM Laptop Memory (CMSO4GX3M1C1600C11) will work with my existing 2g ram coz its 1066mhz and im gonna buy 1600mhz? Will it downgrade? or should i use two 1600mhz? Is there a speed limit that g460 can only allow?

im also wondering, based on task manager i have 4 ram slots? But when i open the back cover i can only see 2 slots for ram.

Thanks

Hi Arlene04,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Yes the Corsair would work alongside with the current 2GB since it would just clock down to 1066 MHz.

Other resellers have also offered the same 1600 speed for the same models too specially in areas were 1066MHz is not available.

Task manager sees the logical ram slot supported but this do not relate to the actual physical slot provided by the model design as commonly seen in laptop builds.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi vyom patel,

I might advise you can try to run diagnostics to identify if there could be any hardware issues. Try to check on the support site if your current BIOS version matches the BIOS/UEFI version recommended on the support site. Enter your machine serial number and head to Drivers and Software tab > Manual Update. You may also start updating the display drivers of your machine.

Try to isolate as well if this could be a display issue by connecting an external monitor and see if the display would replicate the issue.

Regards.
