I own a lenovo g500 which currently uses 6gb of 1600mhz ddr3 ram, one 4gb and one 2gb stick
I was planning to upgrade the ram to 8gb by replacing the 2gb stick with a 4gb ddr3l stick.
But when I replaced it the laptop wouldn't boot up.
My research showed that the 4gb ddr3l stick should work but it didn't.
All the ram sticks are from the same company so I don't think its a problem with the ram.

Please download CPUZ from here;
With the 4GB and 2GB memories installed, provide screenshots of the SPD tab (1 for each memory stick) and the memory tab.
Take a picture of the label on the new 4GB memory you purchased -or- state all info on the label, ie part number.

What is the full machine model you have and what processor is installed?
Do you have the Intel HM76 chip set or the Intel HM 86 chipset?
When purchased new, did machine only have 4GB or 2GB inside?[or 6GB].
Your new memory looks good. Try to use it (alone) in your machine.
I am trying to figure out 4GB max in your machine or 8GB max in your machine. [or 16GB max].
Depending on what you read, it is all over the map.

Could you state where you purchased New 4GB stick from and possible weblink to vendor site? If it fails standalone, It may be your new 4GB stick is faulty.
Your old 4GB: HMT451S6BFR8A - PB
Your new 4GB: HMT451S6AFR8A - PB
Your new stick is an OLDER version of your old stick.
Hynix shows A version End of Life in 2015.
Conclusion: A version stick is DOA.
I am aware Amazon and others sell the A version.
You did your homework correctly. Congrats!
I hope vendor of new Ram has money back guarantee.
Thanks for the great screenshots and your testing results.
