Lenovo laptop. Faulty keyboard - can't log on

I have g580 lenovo laptop. I am stuck on the login screen where i can't type my password because various keys aren't working including need letters and backspace. If anyone thinks they can help or has any suggestions i'd appreciate it as I cannot use my laptop for anything and have no other easy access to a computer. Cheers

Re: Lenovo laptop. Faulty keyboard - can't log on

What version of windows are you running?

If you have windows 8.1 or 10, there should be an Ease of Access icon in the lower right (lower left in Windows 8.1) of the login screen, and if you select that icon you can turn on the On Screen Keyboard (OSK.exe), and use your mouse to type in your password.     You should be able to access the On Screen Keyboard in Windows 7 as well by using the icon at the lower left of the login screen.

Cheers,

The Ease of Access icon is the one shown in the image below, which should be visible when you are at the logon screen prompting for your password.   Left-click to select that icon with your mouse, and then select On-Screen Keyboard from the resulting menu.

From there you should be able to use the mouse to enter your password.

Cheers,

Re: Lenovo laptop. Faulty keyboard - can't log on

BTW.     You might try unplugging the laptop, removing the battery, pressing and holding the power button for 60-90 seconds, and then then replacing the battery, reconnecting AC power (not really needed if your battery is OK) and booting up.

Sometimes that trick will get the keys working again.

Cheers,

Re: Lenovo laptop. Faulty keyboard - can't log on

Hi Mate,

Still no luck. Ease of access button not working (nothing happens when clicked). And the battery trick didn't help. I think my laptops on the way out so I would worry too much.

Hi Toby9,

Have you tried plugging in a USB keyboard and seeing if that will work?

Regards,

Dave
