I wish to upgrade the memory on my G51-35 80M8 (80M8006NUS) from the installed 8GB to the (theoretically supported maximum) of 16GB.
I replace the 2 4GB memory sticks with a brand name (G.Skill) set of 2 8GB sticks (DDR3L-1600) sticks, but when I hit the power button, I get no response. Two small LEDs on the front of the machine light up, there is some mechanical noise of a fan or drive, but there is nothing on the screen and no further response.
Are these machines that sensitive to memory types or do they not actually have a 16GB max?

Thank you for the very insightful reply.
I've located the part for the Micron/Crucial memory kit.
I didn't think to contact G.Skill tech support, but I have and I'll update this thread with what they say.
