Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

Hello,

The only time that I would use the internal microphone is to use Skype.  I would have to sit fairly close to the laptop, however, no problem.  Now, in Skype, I can hear everyone clearly and they can BARELY hear me.  I have gone to control panel and audio, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Skype....nothing works.   I am running Windows 7 .  It is very frustrating.  Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

Hello Daintylu

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Check the volume settings in your recording devices:

Also, some troubleshooting on the skype page may be of help:

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

I tried both of these links and followed the instructions. I'm beginning to think that the microphone in the old computer is broken. I checked the date on the last time Skype worked and it was April last year. Sigh

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

I did go to lenovo site and did a full update, including drivers. nothing works. I think the microphone in the computer is toast. I'm starting to get blue screen too. Sadly, I think it's time for a new computer.

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

Blue Screen??? Usually not a microphone issue would cause that to happen, more like a driver issue. If you can - make a backup of your important files ASAP, also your recovery disks.

Once completed, then you can try "Refreshing Windows" to remove / replace the OS files that may have been compromised, before you spend a chunk of cash to replace the notebook.

On the other hand, if a new notebook computer is in your budget, and offers better, more powerful performance and hardware options (faster networking, Bluetooth and such) then it may not be a bad way to go.

Either way - Good luck.

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

Thanks for your response, I certainly am not a techy. I tried the suggestions from mohamadalih81 and Krakken and so far, nothing has worked.
I have had blue screen about 5 times and I usually start it normally afterward. I did do a backup of the pc. I looked up how to refresh windows and that is VERY scary to me...I'd lose everything. This laptop came with a One Key Recovery. I can restore it to a former date. I was wondering if it would help to do that and restore it to April, last year, when Skype was still working. Anyone with thoughts on this?

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

I would certianly give that a try, and see if it works out as advertised.  Also - the "refresh" option will take the computer back to a known working state, fresh install.  That is why I suggested it as a last course of action and only if you have backed up your data and made recovery disks.

Let us know how the system restore option works out.

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

Just wanted to say "thanks" to everyone who tried to help.  I did all recommended items...nothing worked.  I uninstalled and re installed the Skype program....that did not work.  Left it alone for at least 3-4 months.  Did an uninstall and re-install again and it works perfectly!!!

Now this type of thing has happened before, albeit, not often.  Is there an explanation to this...or is it, "let a gift horse....?"

Re: Microphone problems on Lenovo G570

If it is working, back up your data and critical documents then look into a system refresh option. Usually the "refresh" option just replaces Windows system files and does not wipe out user files, but a back up is always a good idea.
