Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

I was having hard disk issues with my G580, so I decided to back up my files and restore it to its factory settings using OneKey. The hard disk issues must have affected OneKey because the restoration gets stuck at 49%. I need the backup.wsi so I can put it on a flash drive and restore it from there.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

Hi Jakesloan15,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I’m sorry to hear that the OKR (One Key Recovery) is getting stuck at 49% while performing backup. If the computer is booting to windows the only available option to backup the OS (Operating System) installed in the computer is by creating the Recovery Media in a USB Flash drive. Below are the steps for the same:

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

Windows 8 recovery dosyasını nerden bulabilirim. Lenova fabrika ayarları tuşuna basıyorum dosya bulunamıyor.

Google translated......

Where can I find the Windows 8 recovery file? I press the button on the Lenova factory settings, the file is not found.

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

The windows system files needed for the recovery process to work are located in a hidden and protected partition on the hard disk drive. If the drive has become compromised, or is failing the recovery partition may have been lost.

Recovery discs (DVD) can usually be purchased from Lenovo Support site, or by calling Lenovo Support directly.

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

Hi, I have one key Recovery backup in external haed drive. How can I use it to restore my laptop to Factory Default. After installing Fedora Linux, system is neither booting Windows 8.1 nor One Key Recovery is working. Hidden recovery partition is still there, unmodified especially PRB_DRV.

Please Help.

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

If you installed Fedora as primary OS it will have wiped out the boot manager used by the recovery process, and may have removed files from the recovery partition. The recovery disks are meant to be used via CD/DVD not an external source.  Also - did you install Fedora in "dual boot" mode, so it would pick up the Windows install?

Have you tried booting from the external drive, and if possible did it launch the recovery process?

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

I installed Fedora in dual boot mode.Yes, it wiped out boot manager and installed Grub, containing Windows and Fedora, but was booting only Fedora, not Windows 8.1. I tried launching One Key Recovery using Novo button, but system restart again. I also tried Doing image recovery using windows bootable dusk, which I made using download Windows from Microsoft website.

Is there any chance of getting Factory Default installation left there?

Re: Need backup.wsi for Windows 8.1 (G580)

Fedora does not play well with windows - even with Desktops.... I have it running on one of my workshop computers (use it to read damaged drives). It has never truly like Windows, and editing out the GRUB file to get it to "see" windows was painful.

There are several Fedora forums that have been a very useful resource for getting it to work in dual boot or multi boot mode, I would suggest visiting them, asking for assistance from some of their strong (Guru) types.
