Hi Ron007 ,
On upgrading RAM , it is always advised to match the same specifications recommended by the manufacturer to avoid incompatibilities and other issues. To purchase it directly from manufacturer or certified resellers that guarantee that it is compatible with the model.
Basic rule in RAM upgrade is match and pair same specific frequency module but theoretically would still work and the pc would just be choosing the lowest frequency (clocking down) to work with.
Some system would not detect the added RAM and some just simply not proceed on booting , not necessarily harming the motherboard or processor.
Your recommended laptop RAM Specification :
8GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3*,
non-parity, dual-channel capable,
two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets
* System automatically clocks down for processors with 1333MHz DDR3 memory controller
You already have 2 GB and can simply add 4GB RAM similar to this for a working 6GB (your max is 8GB).
You can also call in Lenovo to check on availability and pricing for part number : 11200341 SS M471B5273DH0-CK0 DDR3 1600 4GB or recommend RAM as option.
Hope this answered your query.
Have us updated on how it goes.

Thanks for above help and guidance...
Actually today i went to lenovo purchase shop , i told them that i want to buy 4GB ram . They provided m new Kingston Ram with Speed MHz - 1330MHz frequency and with 8 chips (4 front & 4 back not like 8 front & 8 back as link provide by you ), as my existing ram is with same frequency.
When they open my laptop G580 to fit new ram , they told that my laptop has only 1 slot alloted to fit ram.
They said that either one of them i can fit the RAM. So i didn't purchase..
I don't know how is that possible , in G580 manual they said 2 slot for ram is alloted...
Acutally i cross checked with the above link (Crucial web scanner )
They show that i have 2 slot for this
(Maximum memory: 16384MB
Right now i'm totally confused please help m...
Do you anything about this? or any similar kind of example??

Hi Ron007 ,
Good that you checked back with us.
First , about the chips on the module:
A memory rank is, simply put, a block or area of data that is created using some or all the memory chips on a memory module.
Each manufacturers release versions 4x4 front back chips vs. 8 front chips designs that says have better performance but is really negligeable , main difference is the price (highlighs as example ,check the price for each same specs) .
Second, about available slots ( no.11 page 101)
Is it an Intel I3-2370M 2.4G J1 3M 2cPGA Processor or Intel B970 2.3G D2 2M 2cPGA Processor (single slot)
Best is to check yourself by following the manual and service guide highlighted.
Do you have the machine type ? Keep your serial number confidential and just check the Machine number here.
Manufacturer recommendation is Max 8GB for best performance , the i3 CPU can handle up to 16GBmax .
Both would surely work since it have the same specs but more likely you would be purchasing way above what you just really need .
Check back as soon as you can.
Hope we got things a bit clearer now.

I have checked twice , My Laptop has only 1 memory slot .
I went to buy new 4GB RAM ,the service center now says that , the new ram frequecny isn't capable or not suitable for this laptop.
So its not worthy to install new RAM on this laptop
Could you please give m suggestion...
Waiting for reply .....

What would be the reason why the service center say that the frequency is not compatible ?
PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 as recommended . Would they happen to have a chance to check it with another brand perhaps or frequency as they say.
Some reported incompatibilities were only for some brands, same speifications should work ok.
Update us how it goes.

I have a very basic question somewhat related to this topic.
My Lrnovo G580 [Intel (R) Core (TM)i3-3120M - 2.50 GHz] with 4 GB RAM became really slow after I strated using MS Office 365. Mostly when trying to open or close any application, it initially shows a 'not responding' message and generally takes about 20 to 25 seconds to open.
Just wondering if upgrading the RAM to 8 GB by putting an additional 4 GB RAM stick might help. Would greatly appreciate a quick response.
Thanks in advance.
